I have never driven an automatic chery. in general, adding automatic transmission always reduces the performance of the car a little, because there is some energy loss in the torque converter (does the job of the clutch, between the engine and transmission) and also the automatic usually has less gears than the manual, so the engine speed cannot be as near to optimum. so if you are worried about performance of the big car with the fairly small engine, it could be a problem.
if you have no racing aspirations, then it doesn't matter too much. especially if you drive mainly in city traffic.
modern automatic transmissions are electronically controlled and much nicer to drive than the older ones, I am not sure how the chery transmission works, it might be a simple non-electronic one.
