Well, Chery must have known that something was not right when they paid only $250K for a consulting on how to improve chassis assembly quality. A normal consulting contract costs tens of millions.

Regardless, it is going to get more difficult for Chery to obtain technology from Korea. Chery is on the top of Korean intelligency agency's "watch list" and any person who comes in contact with Chery by any mean(e-mail, phone-call, flights to China) are heavily monitored and harrassed.(It was the government intelligence agency that intercepted this Chery transaction and not Hyundai, which was totally clueless) Consulting firms and engineering outsourcing firms will avoid Chery like hell because doing any business with Chery mean getting government agencies constantly monitoring them.

If I were to buy something from a Korean company/consulting firm, and they can "prove" the stuff is legit (and I'm sure they "can") then I'd buy, and the lower the price the better. So would anyone.

I never said I'd buy replicas , I don't like replicas , but cars like the A5 / A3 / A1 / A6 .. are so not replicas and will be cheaper than thier ugly korean competion .

but I would never buy a QQ / Orientalson or the A11 ..
Unless I am really low on resources .

Coming to think about it again , I would never buy any chinse brand except if it was a Chery or A Brilliance .

Hyundai recently announced they want to make a super cheap car for the Asian market . So whats better than to Replica the Replica ???

The Hyundai GG , a replica from the Chery QQ , with the hyundai badge for the Asian market, thats why there's A qq there , and this deal was not stolen technology .. it was mutual sharing ... between chery and hyundai . Chery decided to give the QQ blueprints to Hyundai for $$ .. Hyundai got pissed off because they just bought the Toyota Camry blueprints for LOTS of $$$ and got exploited too !! .. so the deal went off .. and both officials left the scene .
