The Cherry QQ5 appears to have been given a slight update to its front end prior to production, the update makes the QQ5 look a lot less harsh to the eyes, but we can certainly say that Chery have a vast range of differing designers amongst them, they produce some truly beautiful cars, like the Chery A3 (or rather with a little Italian help) and then they design some true odd balls like the QQ5. Either way, the QQ5 is so ugly, its actually pretty cool.

The model below is actually the reported QQ5 Sports model, which will feature a 1.3l, 16v 4cylinder engine and a 5 speed manual gearbox. The equipment levels of the future QQ5 are reportedly to be quite high, on par with the , which will be its nearest competitor in this segment, and the ugly stakes.

No red lights in the taillights, huh? There is a red deflector light below, but it doesn't look like the light that will light up upon hitting the brakes. Domestic cars and all imports to America have red lights in the brake lights somewhere.

Chery Auto to launch S16 mini sedan by May

December 29, 2008
Shanghai, December 29 (Gasgoo.com) Chery Auto is seeking a formal name from the public for its Chery S16 sedan model, a new member of the Chinese automaker's well-known QQ mini-car series. This new mini sedan is expected to go on sale in Aril or May 2009, said The Beijing News today, citing a Chery insider.

The Chery S16 was first unveiled as a concept car known as the Chery Wow at the 2005 Shanghai Auto Show, and since then it has been shown to the world under the name of Chery QQ5 and Chery QQ Sport.

The new Chery mini model features the exterior look and styling elements of concept cars. The C-pillar looks like the D-pillar area of the Chevy Equinox while the lights front and rear are reminiscent of the VW Beetle. The front and rear of the model are symmetrically designed.

Measuring 3,747mm x 1,597mm x 1,514mm, the S16 is Chery's first two-door four-seater mini model, a bit longer and wider than the Chery QQ, but its 2,315mm wheelbase is shorter than that of the Chery QQ3.

This car was supposed to make its debut in the second half of 2008 but now we know that this due date is now delayed to some time (well April or May) in the first half of 2009, I hope with this postpone Chery will bring the standard of S16 to the standard of A3 (like with the postpone of A3)

Chery S16 - Officially to be known as Chery QQme

February 9th, 2009 - Chery have finally given the S16 a proper name rather than a code name, it is now to be known as the Chery QQme. Previously it was rumoured that the S16 would be known as the Chery QQ5, but Chery have gone with the name QQme. Does this leave the door open for a future QQ5?

The QQme’s design is supposed to be a ‘cute overload’ aimed at young buyers, especially the female market. The dasboard is supposed to imitate a smiling face.

Re: Chery QQme (S16)

For me definatelly one of the most original chinese cars. Perhaps a nice competitor for Ford Ka or Fiat 500 around here in Europe.
Wonder which chinese cars will be still remembered twenty or thirty years in the future. Possibly this will be one.
