Insurance is OPTIONAL here , and it doesnt follow segments , it follows a constant system , 1.5% to 3.0% of the car Price paid annualy .

Asian cars = more percentage
european and american = less percentage

nothing much the chinese are offering here , just the same or on par waranty.

i dont believe that statistics, i know rovers to be terrible in relibility. also the are copies of old honda, so dont know why british people buy the old crap instead of the originial and better honda

Considering that the Chinese are serious about making their mark everywhere in the world, they have to start gaining successes in developing nations first. Egypt is the largest nation in the Arab world, it is a natural target for the Chinese automakers.

I am sorry Chinoy I dont have such data , but whatever the figures are , they won't be much of a saying since the Car Market here is like 0.000000001% of what it is back at China .

For laughters , let me tell you that Audi EGYPT made a Party last week , to celebrate .... ONE HUNDRED AUDI A4 sold , ( yes that's 100 ) in one year .

Total car sales in Egypt for the first half of 2006 was something like 200,000 Car or so that includes all the brands available here japanese , american , european , chinese and even martains ..

So even if the chinese are making Serious attempts here ,its still a very very small market .. so the chances are thier ATTENTION to Egypt might not be in the terms of sale , but it will be in terms of CKD projects , Chery & Brilliance both has assembly lines here , the Chery branded as Speranza , selling the A5 and the A6 ( Eastar ) and soon the Tiggo and V5 to follow the lines .

i would think Saudi arabia is the largest nation in the arab world, but a rich one, so will Chinese automakers consider penetrating the Saudi market ??

so, the chinese brands are offering more features at lower prices, presumably to tempt the potential buyer to go chinese. Next question-are they offering warranty coverage longer than their rivals, or other perks like lower financing rates, guaranteed service vehicles, etc.,etc?

Saudi Arabia is an AMERICAN CLONE market , they hate small cars , they only drive SUVS and 4x4 and sports cars but for diffrent reasons .

they marry alot of women and each family might be consisting of more than 7 members ( national traditions and stuff )

So small cars are totally OUT OF THE WORLD there ... then there's also OIL .. so young kids prefer sports car over hatchbacks and so

I never ever saw a HATCHBAK in Saudi arabia .. for the 12 years I lived there !


Egypt is the biggest in SIZE yes , but not the biggest in car market .
I think they should focus on Egypt again like i said for ASSEMBLY , since labor wages here are almost as low as china , and the gouverment is encouraging foriegn investments in Egypt

In terms of sales , I think they should focus on U.A.E and such rich countries but the problem there is also that its a semi-American car market .. where BRANDS play the best part ... ppl just BRAG with brand names ( I own a Cadilac , I own a lexus . ) so its still a tough job to do

when Lexus ls400 V8 1st came to the market in 1988/89, they were big hit in Saudi Arabia and were good sellers. Not all cars in Saudi are American, although they do sell a lot of their big ones, like the chevy Caprice, Buick roadmaster. Toyota Cressida and Crown Nissan Cedric and maxima V6 are also big sellers in the kingdom. The thing i am saying is that if the Car is good then the Saudi's will buy it. To make excuses that saudis only buy certain cars because of oil and 'national tradion' is pure lame excuses. The reason Chinese dont sell cars in the Kingdom not because of size but because the cars are not high quality enough atm, how ever this will change in the near furure when chinese cars will be seen in saudi roads

The people supplying the figures say they are from actual claims and they have no reason to give incorrect figures. If you ask the price of a warantee from these people for a BMW and equivalent Rover then I am sure you will find the Rover cheeper.

There are no Rovers which are copies of old Hondas. In all the models where there is a similarity it is because they where jointly developed and the two versions put on sale at the same time. In fact for a while the Honda Concerto was built in the Rover factory at Longbridge England so there is no way the Hondas where better since they came off the same production line. (Unless of course the Honda badge was better quality!)

Honda Concerto was a slow seller and for good reason, honda Didnt want to sell them because they were not built buy Honda. Honda Diesels didnt sell much either because of the L series rover engine. However Honda built cars in Swindon are better quality and many UK made honda's are also widely exported successfully.

Toyota Cresida / Corrollas and Camrys are LIMOS and TAXIS in Saudi Arabia

they are the CHEAP POOR MAN car ... and talking of OIL , saudi Arabia is a very rich nation , I lived there for 16 years , in our own Villa , our Villa KEEPER he was Pakistanian , 28 years old ... he owned a new Toyota Corolla .

And since u've never been there please don't just speculate and give speeches out of nothing .

Lexus only started to sell in Saudi arabia because it became sucuessfull in the US , like I said Saudis are an AMERICAN AUTO MARKET clone .

they Ride thier cars just to show off with thier car name and features , not because of thier quality or anything else

until the day we SPEAK .. Saudi youth ppl rather buy old american cars than NEW HYUNDAI cars .

I remmember back in the Early 90s , my dad used to work as a CEO for a Large Pharma-related factory in Jeddah , Hyundai was just launching its EXCELL there I think , the guy tried to convince my dad to buy an EXCELL for me ( I was very very young back then ... not even in driving age )

he went so far , to 10,000 Riyals ,,, ( back then that was like $2000 or less )
but my dad ( owning a 89 Pontiac Bonvielle and an old HATED Accord ) refused , he loved/hated the accord , he loved it cuz it looked sweet ,had a good engine and good fuel economy compared to the 2.4 Pontiac , but at the same time , it went to the Repair shop more than it stayed in his garage .

while the pontiac isnt perfect itself but it remained the family car from 89 to 99 without getting repaired once , of course except accidents .

do you know what do they do with Hyundai accents in Saudi Arabia ?? they use them for drifting and flipping cars over as a hobby in friday ,.. because they are so cheap ...

I also just remmemberd a very very funny quote from a SAUDI Traffic Officer

My dad was teaching me how to drive once , in an empty wide road there next to the sea , then I was asked to park the car next to Pizza Hut .

Anyways as I park , it was my first park ever , I was very very catious and nervous , I was driving the Accord , after 2 - 3 minues of my trials .. a Funny Saudi Officer came , talking in arabic of course asking " What's Wrong with you ? Can't you park that Japaneese car you're driving ? it's so small !!! I could've parked it with one finger !! "

my dad then explained that I am still being teached how to drive, he laughed out loud telling my dad that I should learn how to drive in a real car , not a japanese one then he left us ..

my dad asked me to ignore the funny fat officer and continue parking .
I loved the accord because it was my first ever car , not because of it was a good car , if the car was a chery ... I would'nt have mined .. .

Well, different markets have different requirements.

I'm guessing in Saudi larger cars that are able to cope with hot conditions and are good at high speed are popular there (which is why Aussie made cars are quite popular there, the Camry, Caprice and Lumina are all Aussie cars sold in the Middle East, since Australia's car requirements are similar (except smaller cars are becoming more popular here)).
