Can someone tell us about the New Dadi SUV of Chengdu shown in these February numbers?

This is a model that CAAM tells us is outselling the coveted Chery Tiggo, but I don't think it can be found anywhere on this forum.

I have attached a couple of photos of models that were once sold by New Dadi (Xindadi 新大地). But I find it hard to believe that these are related to these CAAM chart numbers.

Thanks for your help.

Of course......
I should have known that Zotye decided to keep the "New Dadi" brand name and apply to its Daihatsu-based "Zotye 2008" SUV model.
After having acquired Xindadi, and taken its logo to replace its own, Zotye is producing this model in the old Xindadi Chengdu plant.

Betcha that this upstart's success in outselling the Tiggo has gotten Chery's attention. But on the other hand, it seems to have escaped the eye of the press.

There I go talking to myself again...........

On 3/12 Martin posts:

China’s top five SUV and MPV makers in February.

Top five SUV makers sold a total of 17,500 SUV vehicles in February, which represents 62 percent of Chinese SUV market.

Quote:
Rank / SUV brands / Automaker / February sales
1. / Hover / Great Wall / 4,584
2. / Honda CRV / Dongfeng Honda / 4,545
3. / Hyundai Tucson / Beijing Hyundai / 3,316
4. / New-Dadi / Chengdu New Dadi / 2,545
5. / Chery Tiggo / Chery Auto /2,487

If the new Joyear is truly in the 4th place among MPVs it would be a surprise. Such a meteoric rise for a newly introduced model is unusual. I think rather that CAAM is confusing this MPV with the Dongfeng Liuqi Future, which they listed in this No. 4 spot previously.

Hey how about that Refine....JAC hit a home run when they picked Hyundai to team up with on that one.....

Hi TDI and Daewoo Chevrolet:

Yes, you are right DC; New Dadi did at one time assemble and sell the Musso. But I believe that once SAIC bought the majority stake in Ssangyong, that production ended.

TDI, as for Musso being in the top ten, I question it. CAAM reporting has been wrong before and may be in this case too.

Maybe CAAM is confusing the Musso with the Rexton SUV, which replaces it.

I think the quality level of Chinese cars is not that high anyway ;)
Back as far as 2004, JD Power China Initial Quality Survey results showed Chery QQ finishing first in the China compact car segment. (according to the company website) It was right behind the GM Spark ;).
The Dongfeng Liuzhou Future MPV has done very well too.

Martin, can you please tell us the source of your statistics and quotes above. Gasgoo had been showing a Dongfeng Liuzhou MPV in its CAAM-sourced stats but it's not listed here.
Thank you.

Something's wrong with this reporting. If we're talking commercial vehicles here, then why is Lifan in the mix? And why the glaring absence of so many of the commercial big boys like Wuling, Mudan and King Long?

Sales of BYD Auto in February 2009 (by model)
Would love to see the sales figures for the U.S.-bound F3DM (F3E) since its launch back in December.
BYD needs lots of Chinese owners to log lots of miles and to provide performance feedback. This is the only way the bugs can be worked out before exporting this new technology.

Gasgoo's model naming can be confusing. The Jinying here is the hatchback version of the King Kong (Jingang), and the Freedom Ship is the old CK-1 sedan, or Freedom Cruiser. As for the "Maple", well there are lots of models under the Maple logo, so it's anyone's guess as to which one they are referring to here.

Here's a quick quote from the above article.

Boosted by Beijing's stimulus, 2009 passenger car sales soared to 10.3 million and total vehicle sales are estimated at 13.6 million, the China Passenger Car Association said. That represents growth of about 45 percent from 2008.
Now what China (and others) has to be thinking about is the following:

One litre of waste oil is sufficient to contaminate one million litres of water and oil poured onto the ground will affect soil fertility.

note: Martin maybe you will want to move this to the environment-related posts if their is one. Thanks.

The passenger sedan share of the market

Ever wonder about the passenger sedan share of the auto industry market in China?

Here's an interesting excerpt from a report by the China Machinery Industry Federation and China Association of Automobiles published in Beijing on April 28, 2010:

In 2009, twenty vehicle manufacturers produced 12.93 million vehicles, accounting for 93.77% of the national total output of 13.79 million vehicles. While the sedan accounted for a higher proportion as twenty large enterprises produced 7.36 million vehicles, accounting for 98.61% of the national total output of 7.47 million vehicles.
I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that SUVs and minivans are not in the 7.36 million figure.

Of course the other fact that jumps out here is that the other 100 or so auto manufacturers in China like Zotye, Yema, Tianma, Huatai, and Xinkai, produce so little volume (0.86 million) and yet somehow manage to survive.

Note: While output was 13.79 million, total sales were said to be 13.6 million.

Great summary daewoo-chevrolet......
Yes, I agree with Martin, DC. These figures give us a great overview. Thank you.

Is Hafei shutting down production of passenger cars? Sales of Lobo + Saima + Saibao dropped from 2,343 units in June, to 1,007 in July and only 679 units in August.
DC, your question is a good one. In around 2006, when I got my first close up look at the Hafei Saibao, and compared it to the BYD F3, just a few exhibits away, it was clear that Hafei was a better quality car. Yet the Saibao has failed to take off, and now under Chang'an ownership we can only wonder if it will do any better.

As to whether the production of the Saibao will continue, I think that Coda of the U.S. is counting on it for the success of their retrofitted Saibao IV EV product, which is slated for launch in 2011 in California.

Thank you DC....
A few observations gleaned from these 2010 stats:

1.BYD's F3DM which had a target of 10,000 units in 2009, sold just 47, jumping to only 417 in 2010. Not very encouraging to new energy proponents.

2. Dongfeng's Mitsubishi-based Futurer MPV continues to ride close to the top of the charts, despite its unchanged appearance for years. It's like the Santana of MPVs.

3. Upstarts Zotye and Hawtai continue to spiral upward leaving Lifan and Soueast in their dust.

Does anyone have statistics of chinese made cars sold overseas?
Here's an excerpt from a January 14th 2011 article at chinaautoweb.com:
....Local companies lead in sales outside China. Chery, Changan, Great Wall, Dongfeng, and BAIC (mainly Foton) were the top five exporters last year, selling 92,000, 65,500, 55,400, 48,000, and 37,300 units, respectively, in overseas markets.

You are right PGMJ, the list doesn't include all of the 100+ manufacturers in China. Shuanghuan is a small regional player that once had global plans that seemed to fall flat. This is reinforced by a glimpse at it's website which tells us that it has only old domestic news (2008) to report, and no global news.

We also don't see Fudi, Xinkai, Tianma, Yema, Yunchi, Fuqi, or Dadi.

Automotive Darwinism holds the fate of these small players.

Hi DC:
Happy lunar New Year of the rabbit:
I was wondering, are these stats you have posted from CAAM?
The reason I am asking is because the stats for total sales in 2010 seem to be all over the place and it is hard to determine which are most accurate.
Thanks.
