HD truck market had a monster spike in 2004 of about 400k units because of enforcement against overloading - previously smaller trucks were being used to carry these heavy loads, then overnight the nation's hauliers had to invest in bigger trucks.
Since then the market has dropped back - the 250k of last year is comparable to 2003 levels. Some have forecast a return to 04 levels this year but so far it isn't happening.
As you can see from Raul's figures, the HD market is dominated by Chinese producers rather than foreign JV's. In the engines it is similar except that the majority of the DongFeng trucks are running with engines from DongFeng Cummins.
Cummins had the insight to get into China in the 70's and are now reaping the rewards of their patience.
