Chinese auto engineer held over suspected data leak

Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 07:21 EST

NAGOYA — The Aichi prefectural police on Friday arrested a Chinese employee of car parts manufacturer Denso Corp on suspicion of taking out a laptop with more than 130,000 pieces of product design data downloaded from its database without the company's authorization, officials said.

Yang Luchuan, 41, an engineer at the company in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, is suspected of embezzling the information concerning about 1,700 types of products, including sensors and industrial robots. Of these, about 280 types were considered the company's top secret, they said.
He is a patriot to China, right?

Well, what's a traitor to one country is a hero in another. Those ex-Daewoo engineers running Chery R&D are traitors in Korea, but heros in China.

Assuming Chinese auto industry received a portion of those files prior to his arrest, that guy should be given a medal and a hero's welcome once he returns to China after serving time in Japanese prison.

It's a global economy ya dweebs.

Peeps of every nationality works in all sorts of companies in various countries.

Japan is known to hire Chinese engineers on the cheap, tens of thousands, much like how the US use Indian tech workers. They have no choice, it's a matter of survival - believe me, Japanese will NOT hire out if they don't absolutely have to.

People/companies steal from each other ALL THE TIME. Vonage just got busted and has to pay Verizon millions. Microsoft gets dinged all the time, both ways. It's business as usual folks.

Correction, Japanese people don't "hate" the Chinese. Chinese have done nothing to the Japanese for them to hate, unlike the other way around. Jealousy and fear better describe their current feeling. (The jealousy that China is so large and rising rapidly, and that Chinese may retaliate against them one of these days.)

Historically, they rever in ancient Chinese culture and ingenuity. They longed to rule China like the Mongols and the Manchus.

They are snobs and egoistic, and have an ultra nationalistic pride. Along with their economic success, they look down on everyone else in Asia and think of them as pigs (but at the same time, worship the ground Americans walk on, I call it the Asian-self-shame/hate-mentality.)

I would not worry about how Japanese think of Chinese - remember Japan nowadays heavily rely on China economically, and will only become more dependent. In the past years Japan had a $20+ billion USD per year trade surplus with China (same with S Korea) and China single handedly pull Japan out of its decades old slump. China just need to grow and become an economic behemoth, and everything else will fall in order.
