1. Bakkie is a Afrikaans-derived word for pickup or light truck.

2. Certainly, those plants in Asia and Africa would include the ones in China. The ones through a joint venture with Hyundai are those of Beijing Hyundai :)

3. Yes, I mentioned the Sasuka in the "BAW BJ6550MBE Da Haishi" thread on this forum some years ago.

BAIC's upcoming SA plant deserves special mention because it is going to be a car manufacturing plant (consider the investment) housing all operations starting from press shop. Actually, there are only a few Chinese (greenfield) overseas car manufacturing plants in the world -- currently functioning are Chery Jacareí, SAIC-CP Rayong (Phase I CKD; CBU from Phase II), and LTC Ansty just starting up (did I miss any?). A few are under construction or nearing completion such as SGMW Cikarang, Volvo Berkeley (SC), and Great Wall Uzlovaya (Tula).

How about Lifan, did they ever build that plant with Effa in Brazil, in 2012, for planned production of the 320 and 620?
Or SAIC-MG, are they doing CBU vehicle production in Longbridge?

As for greenfield plants under construction, I understand Foton is to build a plant in India with Maharashtra Industrial Development Corp. And, JAC is said to be building a plant for EVs in Ciudad Sahagun, Hidalgo State, Mexico. Is this correct?
Lifan did not proceed with the Brazilian plant. Lifan has a CKD outfit (Besiney) in Uruguay from where cars have been sold in Brazil. This was an Effa factory but after some disagreement with Effa, Lifan is now running it. The plant was idle for more than a year since December 2015 and has just recently resumed operations. Batches of cars are now being prepared for export to Argentina.

SAIC-MG are doing no production at Longbridge (recall my post #51 in this thread)

The Sahagun plant belongs to (Mr. Carlos Slim-Helu backed) Giant Motors, and as I said a few weeks ago, two JAC SUVs are being assembled there as well as FAW trucks and vans. It is still a CKD plant but JAC and its partner are investing 212 mn USD to expand the facility. Work on the expansion began in March. It is envisaged that EVs will eventually be produced there.

A disagreement with Effa?.......that rings familiar, as Lifan also ran into a disagreement in Ethiopia, with Holland Car Plc, back in 2009.
When the smoke cleared, JAC took up with Holland to assemble its vehicles there.
Holland Car has ceased to exist as a business. Lifan now has its own setup, running since 2014, in Dukem/Eastern Industry Zone under Yangfan Motors PLC.
What about Chang'an? It was assemblying mini trucks in Argentina, based on the Suzuki Carry ST-90 from 1998 to 2001, and they've also assembled the Yantai YTQ 1030 CD / CS from 1998 (YTQ 1030 CD crew cab bodywork from 1999) to 2002. Nakai Japan S.A, an importer of Chinese bikes (I don't know why the name), makes a Joint Venture with Norinco, an industrial group (like Grupo Socma), for start the construction of an assembly plant of commercial cars. The "factory" was put in Alta Gracia, Córdoba Province, in 1998. But because the lack of funds, the lack of popularity (the people preferred a Fiat Fiorino, a Renault Kangoo, a Ford Courier or a Chevrolet Combo, because they were too popular on that years and today too) and the economical crisis of 2001, the assembly plant was closed down in 2002 and the JV, finally disbanded.

The best-known Chinese-origin car made in Ecuador is the Chevrolet Sail (SGM308, i.e. "Mk II" hatch and sedan) by GM Omnibus BB. It is one of 5 models made by GM in the country.

The Sail is also manufactured next door in Colombia by Colmotores.

Dmitra, General Motors de Argentina also manufactured the Chevrolet Sail MK1 facelift (in China from 2005 to 2009) as the Chevrolet Classic from 2009 to 2016. Like it's predecesor Chevrolet Corsa, this model is very used as taxi and police cars. And General Motors do Brasil also manufacturated too. But now, the Alvear plant makes the Cruze and if I think, another model.
Thank you. Yes, I know (about the Corsa/Sail/Classic). Although it was face-lifted in China, it was really a GM Opel product for the global market and not what one could call a truly "Chinese-origin car".

GM Argentina makes the D2LC and D2JC Cruze in Argentina and no other model.

But let us not digress.
FAW V2 in Pakistan

Al-Haj FAW Motors of Pakistan, has begun assembly of the V2 hatchback recently. Previously this model was imported. The local company also assembles X-PV (Jiabao V52) and Carrier (T57) mini commercial vehicles as well as FAW heavy trucks.

An off-topic question D.Mitra,
The Lifan Foison is assembled in Uruguay? The guy of the Lifan promo stand told me that.
An off-topic question D.Mitra,
The Lifan Foison is assembled in Uruguay?
Yes, it is.
Thanks for your reply D.Mitra

About Ralitor and JMC, I haven't heard nothing new.
Mauricio Macri gave the approval for national production of JMC trucks in 2017 but it seems that the plans were suspended. Tried to get info about that agreement but nothing.
Could someone solve my doubt?
Foton in Colombia

Foton has been operating a KD plant in Funza, Colombia, since 2015 where the Tunland is assembled. The unit was set up in cooperation with local consumer-goods company Corbeta and Dana Transejes (a subsidiary of Dana Inc.).
