Hello ccf, torque here with a question.

<PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS A SERIOUS QUESTION WHICH DOESN'T NEED TOO MUCH OF THE USUAL 'FOR AND AGAINST CHINA BATTLE' COMMENTS. OF COURSE THOSE COMMENTS ARE STILL WELCOME IF THEY ARE EITHER USEFUL OR MAKE ME LAUGH. THANKS>

Does anybody know whether there are any Chinese (or Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Egypt or wherever) low cost producers of fuel injection for gasoline applications yet?

From my experience, the chinese automakers including the low cost players like Chery, Geely etc have been using the products of international players e.g. Delphi, Bosch, Magnetti Marelli etc, albeit with many parts produced by those companies in China.

The background is that I am in a new job looking at a new way of delivering fuel to the engine with significantly lower cost than existing systems because my new company's method is different. However, a potential threat will be when (and I am sure it is when not if) domestic players crack productio of these systems and deliver them at a made in China (or Indian or etc.) price.

I am particularly interested at the motorcycle level. Are any Chinese motorcycles using fuel injection yet?

Thanks guys,

FT

Sorry, I think you may have misunderstood me - I know that. I have worked in the auto components industry for over 10 years, I understand the landscape.

What I want to know is whether there are any Chinese companies who are producing fuel injection to try to compete with the likes of Bosch, Delphi, Siemens etc. in the local market. I know it would be difficult for them for various reasons - not easy to manufacture some of the components, complex application engineering work, difficulty in gaining the trust of the automotive OEMs, even the Chinese domestic ones. But I am sure there are those that would like to try to do it. Anyway, the debate is not about why they couldn't do it successfully, I just want to know if they are or not.

I don't want to buy a system. I am working for a company which is in development of an alternative means of delivering fuel to the engine, targetted at the small engine and motorcycle market, where cost has meant that up until now most engines are still carburetted.

I want to check whether any chinese companies have so far started to market their own systems based on the conventional technology. By it's nature, our system has a significant cost advantage over a traditional system, but if a Chinese company with low costs, low overheads (copy instead of R&D) and low margin expectatios were to offer a conventional technology system it could also be a threat. I have heard some rumour that Chinese company(ies) may have offered small engine manufacturers a complete system for 100USD but can't find out who.

I am not talking about building something in my garage for my own car.
