April 28, 2008 - Following Guangzhou Honda Automobile's move, Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co reportedly plans to launch its own brand vehicle as early as next year.

"We may follow in Guangzhou Honda's footsteps and launch a self brand under Dongfeng Honda some time in future," confirmed Atsuyoshi Hyogo, President of Honda Motor (China) Investment Corporation Ltd.

"We will commit ourselves to strengthening our R&D abilities, thus we may be able to launch our brand as early as next year," said Liu Yuhe, deputy general manager of the joint venture.

Currently Dongfeng Honda is capable of producing 620 units every day, above the designed capacity of 500 units, according to Liu.

Over the past three years, the joint venture has posted a more than 10 percent annual growth rate, said Liu, adding that the sales for this year are expected to reach 152,000 units, compared with 127,000 last year.

In the first quarter of this year, the joint venture automaker sold 41,000 vehicles in China, representing a 70 percent growth year on year.

Dongfeng Honda to launch own-brand hatchback.

November 5, 2008 - Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co. will develop a new hatchback model based on its current sedan platform instead of introducing hatchback Civic to China due to high cost, xinhua.net said today, citing Dongfeng Honda sources.

Compared to the hot-selling CR-V, Dongfeng Honda's middle-sized car Civic sedan posted flat sales, with only 7,000 sold a month.

The hatchback Civic, quite a different car from Civic sedan, is likely difficult to be accepted by Chinese consumers as the hatchback's price is 26,000 yuan ($3,800) higher than that of the sedan version in the European and American markets, Dongfeng Honda vice executive general manager Liu Yuhe said.

To fill the model gap, Dongfeng Honda has decided to build an in-house developed hatchback model, which will share the same platform with the Civic sedan. According to the carmaker's previous plan, the company would launch a self-developed model by 2010. Without giving the fixed delivery timetable of the in-house developed hatchback model, Liu Yuhe said the project is in process.

An earlier report by gasgoo.com said that thanks to CR-V continual hot sales, the automaker has raised its annul sales target by 10,000 units, bringing the total up to 160,000. "The actual figure is likely to reach 165,000 units, judging by the current market situation," Liu Yuhe disclosed.

According to thetycho.com Honda confirmed the launch of the new brand.

Honda to Start another New Brand in China

Honda has two main joint ventures in China. Guangzhou-Honda with Guangzhou Auto and Dongfeng-Honda with Dongfeng Motor. Guangzhou-Honda just kickstarted a new brand, Everus, which debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

Honda now confirmed it will start another new brand, this time originating from Dongfeng-Honda. The first car will likely be based on the Dongfeng-Honda Civic. The yet nameless brand will be targeted at the same cheap end of the market as Everus. More cars, more competition…
