The Nissan Bluebird is a medium-sized car. Nissan Motor signed an agreement with Dongfeng Motor Co. of China, to build the Bluebird there in the early 2000s. It was the U13 model (produced in Japan from 1991 to 1997) that was chosen, and is sold there as the Nissan Bluebird.

Yulon Motor, the Taiwan-based automaker, developed this variant of the U13, called the EQ7200-II series, in 2001. This featured a U13 central section but heavily revised front and rear ends. However, the centre of the car remains the same, and the 2,620 mm wheelbase is retained. No mention of the Taiwanese connection was made in advertising in mainland China.

The EQ7200-II was built until 2003, when it was replaced by a revised EQ7200-III model. The car is considerably longer at 4,664 mm, as opposed to the original U13's 4,585 mm.

From China Car Times:

February 20th, 2009
The Nissan Slphy Bluebird is a small compact sedan from Dongfeng Nissan that sells reasonably well, and is probably the nicest Bluebird to date.

To take advantage of the growing ‘mini stretched’ market, Nissan have chosen to stretch the Sylphy Bluebird, which is expected to be the flagship Bluebird once launched later this year.

In addition to a stretched Bluebird, Nissan are expected to launch a 5 speed manual version of the Sylphy.

Re: Nissan Bluebird and Nissan Bluebird Sylphy

Bluebird is a name I haven't heard on a new Nissan in a long long time. Have they restarted production or are they only sold in China? Bluebirds sold where I live were ex JDM cars, so it would be nice for an old name to be on a new car.

Dongfeng to launch new Selphy model in April.

March 25, 2009
Dongfeng Nissan’s new Selphy model is set for official launch on April 8, according to a report from Chongqing Commercial News yesterday. For Dongfeng Nissan, the new Selphy will be their first modified model in 2009.

Based on the present model, the new Selphy will have a rebirth with car body’s expansion, equipment upgrade as well as price reduction. To be the full-size flagship family car, the new Selphy has reset its target groups from the former business clients to the family customers. And respectively, its main competitors are switched to the A-class cars such as Toyota Collora and Honda Civic as well.

Noticeably, the vehicle has remarkably extended its car body to 4,665mm, which is 55mm longer than the old model; while the wheelbase length is still 2,700mm.

The new Selphy's selling price may start from 150,000 yuan ($22,000) in the Chinese market.

Re: Nissan Bluebird and Nissan Bluebird Sylphy

Is the bluebird model name only used in China or will they rename models anywhere else?

Dongfeng Nissan launches New Sylphy.

Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Co, a joint venture between China's Dongfeng Motor and Japan's Nissan Motor, launched its first revamped sedan model in 2009 -- the New Sylphy (Xuanyi) to the Chinese market.

The New Sylphy, or Xuanyi in Chinese, has a bigger size and upgraded configurations, but its retail price will not be higher than the current Sylphy's. It measures 4,665mm in length, 55mm longer than its predecessor, with the same 2,700mm-wheelbase. Its front design is similar to that of New Teana.

Dongfeng Nissan said the New Sylphy is positioned as a flagship family sedan, targeting at household users, a shift from the previous business users of the previous Sylphy. The New Sylphy will compete with Corolla, Civic and Octavia in the A-class segment market.

The New Sylphy comes with six 1.6L and 2.0L models, maybe priced between 130,000 yuan ($19,030) and 180,000 yuan. The new cars have been delivered to showrooms and can be ordered now with a deposit of 5,000 yuan.

In January this year, Dongfeng Nissan sold 43,000 vehicles and overtook Shanghai VW as China's top car seller in terms of monthly sales. The joint venture's vehicle sales in the first quarter exceeded 85,000 units, up 25% from a year earlier.
