Sokonindo Super Cab (Indonesia)

PT Sokonindo Automobile is an Indonesian JV between Dongfeng Sokon and a local manufacturer of two- and three-wheelers, PT Kaisar Motorindo Industri. Sokonindo was established for the manufacture of four-wheeled vehicles. Work on the project began in 2014 by acquiring and converting an old, unused motorcycle factory for truck production. Reportedly about $100 mn was invested in setting up stamping, welding, painting and assembly shops.

The renovated plant is situated in Modern Cikande Industrial Estate in Kibin, Serang Regency, Banten province. An all-new minitruck called Super Cab has just been launched in July. The truck is 4280 mm long and sits on a 2750 mm wheelbase. It may be related to the Chinese K-series minitrucks although the dimensions and appearance are different. For now, the Super Cab is unique to Indonesia and there is no Chinese-market version of this vehicle. Engines offered are 1.5 L/74 hp gasoline or 1.3 L/100 hp turbodiesel. An angkot (local public minibus) version is under consideration.

Sokonindo also plans to produce the Glory 580 (Fengguang 580) SUV in Indonesia soon.

Prince K07 and K01 (Pakistan)

Regal Automobile Industries Ltd., a motorcycle producer and an importer of DFSK vehicles, inaugurated their own four-wheeler assembly plant in Kasur, near Lahore, in the last week of June after receiving "greenfield status" approval from the authorities. The Prince K07 (i.e. DFSK K07II) passenger van and K01 (old DFSK K01) minitruck are now being produced from KD kits, both equipped with a 997 cc engine.

(DFSK), is acquiring the other 50% stake in the JV from Dongfeng Motor Group Corporation Ltd. (DFMC), which will make DFSK a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chongqing Sokon Industry Group Co., Ltd.

In return, DFMC will be offered a 26.01% shareholding in Chongqing Sokon Industry Group Co., Ltd., which is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Currently, 60.2% of Chongqing Sokon Industry Group Co., Ltd. is held by Chongqing Sokon Holdings Co., Ltd., a holding company of the Sokon Group. The Sokon group is controlled by Forbes-listed billionaire Zhang Xinghai of Chongqing's better-known Zhang family (not to be confused with the namesake Zhang family, also of Chongqing, that controls Yinxiang group).

2019 Prince DFSK K07 (Pakistan)

Regal Automobile Industries Ltd. has replaced the K07II with the newer model of K07 2019, familiar to us as the K07S. Like its predecessor, the 7-seater is being assembled locally and has a 1.0L 39 kW engine. Note Dongfeng logo in place of the Prince logo affixed earlier.

Another established commercial vehicle maker, Master Motor Corp. (Pvt) Ltd., in collaboration with Chongqing Changan, is very soon expected to commence assembly of vans and pickups from the Star range, known locally as Karvaan (Changan Star 5; SC6406), M-8 (Star 2 pickup; SC1026) and M-9 (Star pickup; SC1027) at its Port Qasim factory in Karachi. These vehicles are already being offered in the market (as fully-built imports) since last year.

In exchange, Dongfeng Motor Group has got a 30.95% stake in Sokon Industry Group, while Zhang Xinghai's share (via Chongqing Sokon Holdings Co., Ltd. and Chongqing Yu'an Automobile Industry Co., Ltd.) comes down to 46.01%.

Ruichi EF51, pure electric pickup truck from DFSK's and Seres' sister company (and Sokon subsidiary) Chongqing Ruichi, based on a rather common design (Chevrolet Colorado-derived) produced by a number of manufacturers till fairly recently. A spiritual precursor to this model was the Farizon G300, also electric, shown in 2019-20.

The EF51 is powered by a 120 kW motor.
