The first pictures from a new mini MPV from Dongfeng, it will be manufactured by Dongfeng Xiaokang, a subsidiary that makes light commercial vehicles. On the pictures only the CDV (Car-based Delivery Vehicle) variant, the passenger variant yet is still hiding… Design very fresh for Dongfeng but Chinese media say the front is too much Volkswagen.Four conventional doors clearly point at passenger-car origins. The new minivan is aimed squarely at the Wuling Hongguang mini MPV which is also available as CDV. The Dongfeng mini MPV will be powered by 1.3 and 1.5 liter engines, mated to a 5-speed manual. Size: 4365/1720/1770mm, wheelbase is 2725. Price will range from 45.000 yuan to 60.000 yuan.

Dongfeng Sokon (DFSK), the microvan division of Dongfeng Motor, launched a seven-seater MPV today in Shanghai. Previously exposed as F505 and Q05, the new car was named "Fengguang" and priced between 50,000 -70,000 Yuan (US$8,090-11,330).

Directly targeting SGMW’s Wuling Hongguang and Changan Honor, Dongfeng Fengguang sits on a 2725mm wheelbase and is 4365mm long, 1720mm wide, and 1770mm tall. The exterior design in the front reminds many of Volkswagen’s Touran.

As the most expensive model from DFSK, Fengguang is powered by a 1.5L DVVT engine which can develop 115 horsepower and 145Nm of torque. Mounted in the front and propelling rear wheels, it is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. A diesel powertrain, featuring an STD-12B engine, will be provided at a later stage.

Being a car-based van, Fengguang is the first DFSK model to have a unibody design, which helps to improve comfort. It has independent suspension systems in both the front and rear, employing MacPherson struts and five-links respectively (most Chinese vans enlist leaf springs for rear suspension).

On upper trim levels, Fengguang will get dual front airbags, ABS+EBD, EPS, and one-touch engine start.

Apparently following Wuling's principle, where they are offering two slightly different models in the Hongguang range (Hongguang and Hongguang S), DFSK too will introduce a new variant of Fengguang which is going be a little bigger than the current model with minor differences in styling.

The new variant will be known as Fengguang 550, and consequently the existing model will be badged Fengguang 350 to distinguish the two. (The source of this information is MIIT's latest Fuel Economy table.)

From images available, the front and side views of the 550 seem no different from the 350:

The difference is apparent from the rear though.

550:

Current model (i.e 350):

Dimensions (L x W x H):
550: 4430 x 1725 x 1790/1810 mm
350: 4365 x 1720 x 1770/1790 mm

Wheelbase remains identical at 2725 mm.

The length for DXK6442AF1 (550 in Notice #256) was given as 4430 mm and for DXK6442AF2/AF3C (360/550 in Notice #262) it is given as 4510 mm. I think one should accept the newer datum as correct, although there is no actual 550 in the market. There is thus a 14.5-cm difference between the 330/350 and the 360.

The Chinese media will certainly publish more articles as the launch draws near, with dimensions mentioned, so we shall know one way or the other.

Pic from MIIT showing both 550 and 360 in one collage. 550 has the older bumper and headlights:
