China's FAW considering bid for Chrysler - report
02.26.07, 8:27 PM ET
BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - FAW Group Corp, one of China's three largest automakers, is considering a bid for DaimlerChrysler AG's ailing US unit Chrysler, the Shanghai-based Oriental Morning Post reported.
FAW has sent representatives to the US for talks, the report said, citing sources.
Spokespersons for DaimlerChrysler and FAW declined to comment on the report.
The bidding process for Chrysler will start as soon as next week, The Detroit News said in a report published on its website earlier this week.
DaimlerChrysler is also studying a potential deal with General Motors that would involve swapping its money-losing Chrysler unit for a minority stake in its long-time rival, according to a report from London over the weekend.
