^American Motors Corporation. They were a merger of Nash, Hudson and other small guys way back in the '50s. They made some cool cars like the AMX, and some not so cool cars like the Pacer. They were bought by Chrysler in the '80s.

GM - Chrysler will never happen. Train wreck of epic proportions for very little benefit.
Cerberus will part out Chrysler within a year, GM will need a bailout, but will survive on their own.

Unlikely.

Those who invented the car still make the best. The same is true in many other fields as well, such as airplanes, computers, ect.

American engineers have been making cars for over a hundred years compaired to maybe a decade or two in China. Chinese cars still do not come close when it comes to matching the quality and reliability of an American built car.

yes but what about japanese and german cars, much better than American

and its not just the fact of building a car, its about running the business model to build the business, and apparently the US companies didnt have that

Depends on your definition of "better". Asian & Euro certainly aren't in terms of value for the price. The fastest sedan around the Nurburgring is a Cadillac. The fastest production car of any type around the Nurburgring is a Dodge. Name a Japanese or German company that offers 100,000 mile warranties like GM, or a lifetime warranty like Chrylser. Show me a Japanese or German car that produces 400+ hp and gets 30 mpg. Show me a Japanese or German truck that can tow 20,000 lbs and costs $25,000 or less.
As you can tell, I'm tired of the stigma. Its not the early 1980s you know.

Besides, if American manufacturers do down, no one will be buying Chinese cars anytime soon, as we will have 25% unemployment here. No jobs = no money = no Chinese stuff, and the North American market will get pushed back 10 years. Do you really want that?

Besides, everyone knows that the best cars are Italian. :D
