"Hafei Automobile, the seventh largest Chinese automaker, has completed construction of its second plant, according to China Automotive Review. Hafei sold more than 230,000 vehicles in 2005, most of which were mini-vehicles.

The new plant has required an investment of around US$250m and will produce sedans and hatchbacks with an engine capacity of 1.6 litres and above. In this segment the company currently builds the Saibao, designed by Pininfarina.

The report says that the new plant will build all-new models, designated HF3, HF8 and HF5. Initial capacity is put at 30-50,000 units, although it is planned that this will increase to 200,000 units by 2010."

this list shows in q1 hafei compans sold more cars than geely and hafei is 8th place in the list but hafei is not populer like geely. what is the problem with hafei? is hafeis cars not high quality? hafei's sellings consists of commercial vehicles. hafei doesn't sell much passenger-car. is this the reason why they are not populer.

Re: Hafei business news

Is not the second list commercial vehicles? Or no? If so, the introductory paragraph about Hafei on China Car Forums only talks about Hafei making smaller sedans and hatchbacks, not commercial vehicles.

And so, that would make sense, that the second list is trucks and/or commerical vehicles produced in the 1st quarter of 2008. And not passenger vehicles, which Hafei Motors specializes in.

Can anyone confirm my thoughts on this as being true?

Re: Hafei business news

You are right Rally Red....Hafei is a state owned passenger car manufacturer that specializes in cars, minivans and minitrucks, not commercial vehicles. The second list includes manufacturers that are exclusively commercial vehicle manufacturers.

Hafei vehicles gain 50% market share in Morocco.

July 24, 2008 - Since they entered Morocco three years ago, Hafei Auto's products have gained up to 50% market share of vehicles of their kinds sold in the country, said China Business News yesterday. Most of the Hafei vehicles exported to Morocco are mini-trucks.

According to data released by China's Ministry of Commerce on July 23, the exports of Hafei Auto had saw rapid growth in the first half of this year. The Chinese carmaker had received orders for more than 800 vehicles by June, a remarkable increase over one year earlier. "Hafei" mini-series has captured 50% market share in Morocco's mini-car market. Hafei trucks forayed into the Moroccan market in the late summer of 2005.

Currently, China is the third largest exporter of automobiles to Morocco. Hafei vehicles have expanded their market share in the country gradually in the past three years thanks to their high quality and low prices. Compared with other products of their kinds in Morocco's auto market, Haifei vehicles feature sophisticated technology, powerful strength and durable performance, and they are low-priced.

The vehicles Hafei Auto has exported to Morocco are mostly mini-trucks. Hafei is a Chinese carmaker and a subsidiary of China Aviation Industry Corp II (AVIC II). Its primary products are mini-cars, mini-buses, mini-trucks, MPVs and sedans. The company sold more than 28,100 vehicles in the first half of 2008.

Hafei Auto to make cheap, clean dual-fuel sedan.

February 19, 2009

To speed up its manufacturing of energy-efficient, eco-friendly vehicles, Harbin Hafei Automobile Industry Group will put its self-developed dual-fuel sedan in to mass production soon, xinhuanet.com reported today. This dual-fuel Hafei Saibao sedan model is low in emission and in price -- clean and cheap.

The dual-fuel Saibao sedan model independently developed by Hafei Auto can use gasoline and natural gas as its fuel. The compressed natural gas (CNG) used by the model contains no harmful substances such as benzene, lead, and sulfur, has little friction with the engine and is cheaply available. All the key parts are imported and have undergone strict trial to ensure the driving safety.

As to its energy efficiency, the dual-fuel model applies the electronic-controlled sequential multi-point gas injection system to control the fuel volume and reduce the gas consumption. This will increase the economy of its fuel use.

After repeated trials and innovations by Hafei Auto's auto technicians, this Hafei Saibao dual-fuel sedan model only produce one third of the emissions of a common gas-powered vehicle of the similar size. So it is an eco-friendly model.

In addition, the cost of the Hafei Saibao dual-fuel model's engine maintenance is also relatively low. The costs for the engine fuel and vehicle repairs can be saved by 50%.

Hafei extends partnership with Qingyuan Electric Vehicle.

September 7, 2009
Harbin Hafei Automobile Industry Group Co has signed a strategic partnership contract with Tianjin-based Qingyuan Electric Vehicle Co to extend their cooperation on development of new energy vehicles, the Xinhua reports on Sunday.

The two companies began cooperation in 2007 to develop a battery-powered version of the Saibao. The electric sedan is expected to be sold in the US this year through Miles Automotive Group.

Hafei already delivered 800 mini electric trucks to the US under "Miles" brand, and to Netherland, Russia and other European countries as well

Based in north China's port city of Tianjin, Qingyuan is a new energy vehicle maker majoritily owned by China Automotive Technology &Research Center (CATARC). Its business is centered on R&D in the field of clean energy vehicle (pure EV, hybrid vehicle, alternative fuel vehicle, etc.).

Hafei Motor is a division of state-owned AviChina Industry & Technology, which builds military and commercial jets and helicopters.
Hafei Auto has been practically stagnant for the past few years with no real big model roll outs over the past few months, its mini van business is doing great, but its sedan making business is lacklustre at best. Hafei has already exported its electric highway speed vehicle to the USA under the Coda Automotive brand.

Hafei is planning to build on its relationship with Tianjin based EV research company, Qingyuan, to further develop electric sedans for use within China. Qingyuan have already researched and developed a series of EV’s that have seen sales in Europe, Russia, and other markets.

The addition of a further player in the Chinese EV R&D business other than BYD is expected to start an ‘EV War’ within China that will further push on EV development, and eventually bring down prices to a region that everyone can afford, and ultimately replace their gasoline engine with.
