Haval, the SUV brand recently launched by Great Wall Motor (GWM), is to make its first appearance at an auto show later this month in Shanghai. The lineup will include a new entry model, the H2 compact. Latest spy shots show that the H2 to be debuted will look very different from the one exposed in the past and bearing the same name.
GWM has apparently abandoned the old design for the compact SUV. The front grille was re-shaped in line with the H5 and upcoming H8. In the back, the spare tire, previously found outside on the back door, was tucked under the cargo floor.
Assuming no significant changes in the underlying structure, the upcoming H2 will have a 2580mm wheelbase and a body-length around 4300mm. Its suspension system will comprise MacPherson struts in the front and torsion beams in the rear. The main engine choice will be an all-aluminum 1.5 liter (GWM’s GW4G15) which can put out up to 77kw of power and 138Nm of torque; paired to it will be either a 5MT or CVT. Both FWD and real-time 4WD configurations will be available.
As will be shown in Shanghai, between the two Haval series, only the H will carry the newly-unveiled red logo, while the Great Wall marque will still be used on the M, as the latter are deemed boxy cars rather than real SUVs (in the future, the M series may no longer be named as Haval).
The Haval H2 is expected to go on sale before the year end with prices around 80,000 Yuan.
