Brilliance China to sell sedans in Europe

www.chinaview.cn 2006-11-29 10:13:40

BEIJING, Nov. 29 -- Brilliance China Auto, the partner of German luxury car firm BMW, Tuesday said it has clinched a deal with a German auto trading company to sell a total of 158,000 own-brand sedans in Europe within the next five years.

According to the deal, which is worth 16 billion yuan (2.04 billion U.S. dollars), Bremen-based HSO Motors Europe will be responsible for selling Brilliance's Zhonghua 2.0 and 2.4 litre sedans in one of the world's most competitive car markets.

The deal marks the biggest foray so far by a Chinese automaker into any Western market.

How can the Chinese Government assist the local car manufacturers profitably expand overseas?

I think the government here in China should use domestically produced cars and not the passats, and A6's to show that they, as a government, have confidence in the Chinese automobile industry. The city government here in Qingdao, and most of the eastern coast city government seem to like to buy European mid range - luxury level sedans - completly crazy to pay over the odds when you've got cars that are practically on the same level but a third of the cost being produced locally!

The army however, does have a HUGE fleet of Chang Feng jeeps, as well as Mitsubishi's and various other cars, including luxury vehicles (i saw a navy guy driving a V8 Volkswagen SUV with navy plates the other week!), but Im told that the luxury cars were confiscated from people or businesses for not paying taxes etc, they get their cars turned over for army use! (or so im told ;) )
Absolutely right. The Chinese government agencies should be buying 100% Chinese owned and made vehicles, and if at all possible, Chinese designed.

It's not just a show of "patriotism", it would save the government tons of money!!! All the while really help out the small Chinese car makers.

What the likes of Qingdao government is doing is purely out of vainity and ego. I'd add stupidity to the list.
But image of Chinese car in China = poor quality, unsafe, and polluting. Even Chinese don't want that.

It hurts the public image of government officials shown to be driven in a Chinese car. This is why they must be driven in foreign brand cars.

Man, if it wasn't for your crummy screen name and your obvious hatred for China, you make very good, valid points sometimes.

You may want to lay off playing with font sizes, though....
