SKorea's Hyundai Motor to produce 'super cheap' car aimed at China - report
02.04.07, 7:41 PM ET

SEOUL (AFX) - Hyundai Motor Co plans to produce a 'super cheap' economy compact car aimed at China and other emerging markets, JoongAng Daily reported, citing a company executive.

'Hyundai will strategically develop a budget car aimed at the Chinese, Indian, Southeast Asian and Central and South American markets,' the executive was quoted as saying.

The compact car, with an engine size smaller than 1,000cc, will be introduced to China in 2010 at prices beginning at 30,000 yuan or below 4,000 usd, the executive said.

Hyundai's Chinese affiliate, Beijing Hyundai, has already sent letters to its parts suppliers in China to prepare for the project, it added.
Hyundai's Chinacar game plan.
- Chinese steel
- Chinese parts
- Chinese warranty
- Chinese price
- R&D takes twice as long as normal Hyundais because of having to work with Chinese suppliers.

Factory floor supervisers are. I actually saw a documentary on how a Kia factory floor manager trained his Chinese subordinates. He carried around a baseball bat and smashed whatever the defects he saw on his worker's workmanship. This scared the hell out of Chinese workers and the quality improved quickly.
If they really smashed the defects by a baseball bat, do u think they did it to scare Chinese employees? The act was to stress the important of quality and it happened in Hyundai factory in SK as well. It's not applied only to chinese employees. Because The quality was the top priority of Chung Mong GU, Hyundai CEO! And do you know what Samsung did? They collected the thousands of mobiles from the shop and burnt all of them in front of whole employees.... did samsung do it to scare the employees as well?

Probably, the document was trying to tell you what they did to assure the quality rather than chinese improved the quality because they were scared of it. May be it's showing your personality that you would be scared rather than getting upset and trying to show them what you can do when your supervisor smash your work due to the defect. grow up and be a man!
i think it's hilarious that mister 'chinese cars are cheap crap built with chinese parts can't meet global quality and safety standards you should buy good cars not cheap cars, can't build cheap cars in china etc etc' is now glowing about this cheap chinese built chinese sourced non safety compliant short warranty programme.

hyundai are now planning to build the antithesis of what you've been loving them for and you're lapping it up.

you have no principles of your own, just look at what your heroes hyundai, toyota and honda are doing and then sing their praises.
price war on chinese terms

The field of trade belong to china, they know better than anyone the intricacies, loop holes and pressure release valves of their own industry. they have adopted the model of quick sale, small profit, which finds its advantage not so much in qualitative value but in quantitative (volume) sales. the world is turning to china for the labour solution surounding auto production, hence it will be difficult to any foriegn competitor to compete successfully within the chinese market inspite of the fact that they have adopted the methods. hyundai, despite their best efforts, cannot stick it to chineses manufacturers within the chinese marketplace.

Chery doesn't want IPO because it hinders their fast growth, but they have no choice because they are running out of cash.
Ridiculous, you know nothing about finance. Keep pretending you do anyway.

Chery is a job project by the city government of Wuhu; it has nothing to do with the communist party. Again you know nothing about the state of Chinese auto industry.
You the absolute inside man, I truest you. You are the Robert Hanson working inside of Chery.

Yes. Hyundai/Kia's Chinese lines run at the fastest throughput.
Full speed producing junks.

They might sell some cars now but they definetly felt threatened, that is why they plan to produce those ultra cheap cars to compete which is bond to fail.

Worked in China. Interestingly, I also saw how the militant labor union's drill sergeants were training their American workers and they were talking politely through a translator. So there is a racism at play. Or talking politely to Chinese doesn't work and this is why the drill sergeant carried around a baseball bat.
 All i see from this story is that Koreans feel they are inferior . Nationalism is at all time high in China, those korean drill sergeants with base ball bats sure will have their asses kicked as soon as they start wiving them. In case you don't know, Chinese do have a habit of looking down on koreans.

It is understood that in Korea, a boss can order his militant labor union to drag a pregnant female worker out of her shift and beat the unborn baby to death if he thinks the female worker's productivity is low, that kind of behavior constitute murder everywhere else in the world.

It is interesting to see that some of the ethinic koreans born in the states raised in democracy never took human rights to their hearts. They can accuse others violating human rights all day and proud of the shit koreans are doing at home at the same time.

I guess koreans' inferiority IS passed down through DNA.

Well, not as of 02/19/2007.

In case you don't know, Chinese do have a habit of looking down on koreans.
Well, you can't tell that from the looks of Chinese executives in Korea.

Why would a democratically elected union boss do that? As militant as they appear, union ranks are elected and every major decisions must be put through a vote.

This is something that some one who never voted in his life could understand.

Do u mean that's why toyota is preparing the ultra cheap car as well? So they disassembled Hyundai cars for it?

I also noticed that you mentioned about the mafia union repeatedly.

I think you'd better to shut up unless u know something about korea.
What do you know about the labour union in korea? Reading a couple of lines from the newspaper make you feel you know everything about it? or do u really want to compare the working condition in factory one by one between korea and china? U know what ? Actually, I feel you don't even know what is the life of labours like in china and that's why you keep mentioning the mafia union.

Here Here!

Bust on the user "Real I Hate China" all you want - but only one person in this thread was using hateful, degrading name calling childish stupidity - and it was NOT "Real I Hate China"

Grow up - It's a forum. It is impossible to win an anonymous argument - they are just words on a screen.

Well, I'm not sure if you saw my comment clearly as I didn't seperate my one from King-of-hill one. I said what I had to say as his comment was nothing more than the racism.

Chery lost $80 million from January 2006 to October 2006 according to Chinese press. Chery's losses since October is unknown.
To CIHC (or anyone else who knows) - Do you have link for this stat?

I did google search and can not find. I have been looking and can not find any financial details on Chery, so surprised this was reported. Perhaps I am not looking hard enough, also in English only, but was expecting financial details only to be reported when the IPO prospectus is released, if IPO goes ahead that is.

Thanks.

Koreans have been given a chance to compete with Japanese in US, 30 years later they are still a marginal player while letting TOYOTA to climb to no. 1. Needless to see how compatitive hyndia/kia is.

I also noticed that you mentioned about the mafia union repeatedly.

I know a lot.
Last time I went to the museum in SOUEL I saw tons of accent art pieces with writtings in chinese.

Read a lot about their brutalities and how korean society functions as a whole, unequal social classes, discrimination against women, their self projected pride and big company/government tie-ups.

Even the working condition here in US is not 100% perfect, needless to say about China or korea. RIHC was suggesting that it was ok for a korean drill sergent to beat up Chinese workers, I pointed out koreans do that kind of shit to their own kind as well.

superidler said:

I guess you can equate my word of "DNA" with world of "heritage". I understand koreans, somehow, always feel like they are the victems squeezed between 3 empires (US, China, Japaan) throughout the history. North is a puppet state of China while South is semi-occupied by US, koreans feel like the slighest economic advantage they enjoy right now over average chinese finally gives them the opportunity to lash out on them.

Sadly, this self-projected reality can't be furthur away from truth. To say it is ok to beat up chinese work is ok on the web, but will if known to the chinese public koreans will have to "butt out" of china.

Means only one thing, he doesn't have the guts to swing it knowing full well his ass will be kicked if he provokes his chinese workers.

I read the other day that koreans like to cut off their fingers to pretest Japanese, found it amazing, but now I understand that they just don't have the guts to confront Japanese.

It depends on how you interpret the looks. Some of the korean facial expressions look extremely gaymo to me.

Koreans don't know what democracy is, they talk about it everyday thou but it is korean version of it combined with chinese Confucianism (the part that has to do with social classes). The union is a self labeled, authoritarian org with no true democratic process. I guess if you can call a korean labor union democratic, you can call an Italian mofia a democratic party, after all they all have roles like mob boss, hitman...etc.

BTW, ABC's hit show "LOST" gives most people here in US a glance of what a korean society is like from inside and how they tread their women. Call that a democratic country all you want.

Mobs don't have elections; labor unions do. In fact, they vote too much on whether to strike or not like every couple month.

Oh my gosh, 2010??
Already Chery's QQ3 is being sold for as low as 29800 yuan. With competition from other auto makers and increase in production volume, Chery could easily sell QQ3 for about 25000 yuan when it's 2010.

No, the Koreans are. You said it yourself, when your Japanese masters ruled you like dogs and pumping your women in army camps, your people are so proud that your masters let your people work in the high places of the Japanese government in annexed Korea. The Japanese are laughing their asses off to this day.

Oh, yes, the Chinese IS next in line in terms of being patriotic... :nono: :nono: :nono:
