Yes. Quality is the real crap. That's why they stopped export to Russia at the end of 2005. :nono: Of course some cars are of good quality, but the most are not.

Chinese cars arrive at Zimbabwe

"Zimbabwe's Belgravia Motors company has clinched an agency deal with a Chinese firm, Gaobeidian Xinkai Automobile Making Company Ltd, to distribute new vehicles in Zimbabwe, a development that is expected to improve the supply of vehicles in this country.

This deal, which is a direct response to the Zimbabwean government's "Look East" policy, is certainly going to be welcomed by many, as payments of the vehicles will be made using the local unit, a local newspaper reported on Sunday. The vehicles, which have the Isuzu looks and engine, have single cabs and double cabs, including double cabs with long cargo body pick-up and SUVs. All these vehicles come in both petrol and diesel-powered engines, The Sunday Mail said.

The delivery period is six to eight weeks from date of order, which is also very good for this market when compared with other brands like Mazda, Nissan and Toyota, it said. These vehicles are called Xinkai, but may be renamed to Century for the convenience of locals who may find it difficult to pronounce it in the Chinese language. Currently, there are six samples for the local market to view and test run at the Belgravia Motors showroom. According to the managing director of Belgravia Motors, Faizal Sherif, there are 12 other units on the way that are set to arrive in about two weeks."

I think it's GREAT that Chinese car makers are selling to 3rd world countries first.

The people in these countries will save a lot of money buying cars, and these cars can be fully tested in subpar road conditions for further improvement. Win win for both sides.

I am 100% sure I saw this same logo on a small hatchback here in Egypt without license plates ... it had 2 circular headlights like the VW polo ... but of course its is tooooooo small ( the car ) .

You really have to hand it to Xinkai. In spite of their reported quality problems, they do make available a diverse model line up. But then again maybe one explains the other.
I even saw a Santana look-alike sedan that they had built.
As for this clever new pickup style, I would say they started with a Fudi short wheelbase SUV, and cut off the roof behind the rear door windows.
To me it's rather ugly, front and back, but you have to give them credit for not mindlessly running with the herd.
As for the Tribeca-Sportage look-alike...... not bad.

Xinkai Auto to build 2.5 bln yuan plant in Yinchuan.

July 29, 2008 - Hebei Xinkai Auto Group signed an agreement with northwestern China's Yinchuan economic development zone administration for building an auto manufacturing project in this area, said the official website of Yinchuan city yesterday.

Under the deal, Xinkai Auto is to invest 2.5 billion yuan ($367 million) in setting up a manufacturing base for making 150 sedans annually, a production line for building 50,000 light vehicles annually, a production line for making 250,000 engines annually, and a facility for making auto parts. This manufacturing base will cover the auto-making chain from stamping, wielding, coating, assembling, and engines plus other auto parts.

Hebei Xinkai Auto Group, located in North China, is engaged in fields of car-making, components processing, real estate development, and chemicals producing. The company has built more than 10 modern production lines for auto wielding, coating, assembling and testing. As a carmaker, Xinkai has developed about 30 models of pickups and commercial vehicles. Since 2002, the company has manufactured more than 150,000 Xinkai-brand automobiles.

Currently, Xinkai Auto has over 200 dealerships nationwide and an extensive after-sales network. Its products have also been exported to 79 countries and regions such as Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Panama. In 2007, the company earned US$60 million from its auto exports.
