I agree Laofan, that it is baffling to see the term "coupe" applied to SUVs, CUVs, and four door sedans.
Mirriam Webster gives the historical definition as:

.....a four-wheeled closed horse-drawn carriage for two persons inside with an outside seat for the driver in front

as well as, the automobile-related definition:

...... a 2-door automobile often seating only two persons

It seems the word has been hi-jacked, by modern marketers who have grown bored with the facts.

Merriam Webster Dictionary defines "coupe":

"a 2-door automobile often seating only two persons
also : one with a tight-spaced rear seat"

It seems to be a desperate attempt on the part of manufacturers to be exotic in their naming of models. Nowadays we can see it elsewhere with other terms like, "fastback". And, I don't think the blame lies only with Chinese manufacturers.
