JETTA (FAW-VW third brand)

For some time, I have been coming across mentions of a new brand to be launched FAW-VW. This will be their third brand after VW and Audi. In the past, we had read about the "Carely" brand but that came to nothing. The new brand is not Carely; it is not going to be SEAT either.

These articles talk about this new, unknown third brand:

http://news.bitauto.com/hao/wenzhang/752228

The first two models will be SUVs, followed by a sedan of Santana/Jetta size. In fact, the Sohu article reveals possible specifications of these models too!

The brand is unknown, but I found some tender notices about tooling and machinery announced by FAW-VW for their Chengdu plant where these new cars will go into production. For example this, this.

The product codes for the two "A-class" SUV are shown as BC316/0CN_K and BC316/1CN_K(L). "BC" refers to this new brand, which will likely begin with B (like SE is SEAT, AU is Audi, SK is Skoda). CN is FAW-VW. The "316", as explained in the Kamiq thread, refers to an SUV based on the PQ35 platform. These proposed vehicles would (optimistically) make their first appearance in late 2019, if not 2020.

Re: FAW-VW third brand

Interesting information, I thought this died with the JAC Volkswagen partnership.
Re: FAW-VW third brand

FAW VW has an internal office EBO (Economy Brand Organization) which is overseeing this project.

The sedan, as seen in this article, has the code BC311/2CN, which links it directly to the outgoing Bora (VW311; VW321). Other articles that I have seen, link the sedan to the Chinese Jetta (VW253/2CN).

First BC316 SUV spied:

I can't say which of the proposed two SUVs this one is, but the above article compares it with the SEAT Ateca. It is noteworthy that the 1841-mm width found in the post#1 tables matches the width(s) of the Ateca, Karoq, and Tharu. So, it/they could possibly be built on an economized MQB-A1 platform, and not the older PQ35.

If we compare the lengths and wheelbases (mm):

MQB-A1 SUV
Volkswagen Tharu: 4453; 2680 (2688)
SEAT Ateca: 4363; 2638
Skoda Karoq (Euro): 4382; 2638
Skoda Karoq (China): 4432; 2688

FAW-VW third brand may be called "Jetta" (or a homophone)

Company filings have inadvertently revealed that the third brand may be "捷达" (jieda) or Jetta as we know it. FAW-VW updated its "scope of business" on its corporate profile. Previously it read as "Production of Volkswagen, Audi ABCD series sedan, Audi V6 series engine and its assembly, parts and components, and sales of self-produced products..." etc. The changed business scope now reads, "Volkswagen, Audi and Jetta series of passenger vehicles and parts (including but not limited to the engine, actuators, motors and batteries), and accessory equipment development and manufacture of motor vehicles and parts, equipment and spare parts export..." etc. Note the inclusion of "Jetta series" besides VW and Audi.

In April, Volkswagen AG registered a new logo with the CTMO (Chinese Trademark Office) for Class 12 products (vehicles), application/registration no. G1398653. [In October, FAW-VW registered the 捷达 jieda trademark for Class 9 products (not related to whole vehicles), which Gasgoo has erroneously reported in connection with this new brand]. FAW-VW already owns the Jetta brand in China since 1996 w.r.t Class 12 products, which is in active use, so should not need to register it again.

Logo as registered with CTMO:

According to clearance reports from the Sichuan Environmental Bureau, the Chengdu factory has a capacity of 600,000 units p.a. and produces the current Sagitar (VW361) [NCS GP] and Jetta NF (VW253/2) in four phases of the plant. FAW-VW will remove Jetta NF from production sometime next year and turn half the capacity over to making the new Sagitar (VW371) [NCS NF]. The other half of the capacity will be used to continue making the NCS GP for some more time. Eventually this one will be phased out, and products of the new brand gradually brought on line in its place. First could be the new sedan (which might be derived from the Jetta NF) or one of the two SUVs.

Note that FAW-VW launched the 2019-model Jetta NF (Dream Edition) just a month ago in November, so we might expect it to continue at least till the middle of 2019. After that, "Jetta", or a similar-sounding name, will be promoted to the position of a new brand.

Re: FAW-VW third brand

Breaking Jetta off as a separate brand just doesn't make any sense.
Re: FAW-VW third brand

There is no longer any doubt that the A-SH sedan will be based on the Jetta NF:

The steering wheel has a trapezoid cutout for the new logo which matches with the design of the "J" logo seen above.

EBO is indeed referring to this car as BC311/2CN. BC apparently stood for "Budget Car" since the brand wasn't decided upon when the program began. So, if "Jetta" really becomes the new brand (formally to be announced on 26th February), which appears increasingly likely, the Jetta will become a Jetta!

The first model will be on sale in about six months. Expect something to be shown at the Shanghai Auto Show. The two planned SUVs will based on the MQB architecture.
