- European-styled Sports Coupe Concept to reveal new face-of-Kia
- 4.3-metre long 2+2 coupe to make World Premiere on 11 September

Kia Motors Corporation has released a second preview image of the concept car it will unveil for the first time at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. Shown in profile, the svelte Sports Coupe Concept reveals classic lines coupled with a lengthened cabin design.

Designed in Europe, under the guidance of Kia’s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, the all-new 2+2 Sports Coupe Concept, whose name remains a secret at present, will demonstrate an uncluttered, pure and timeless execution and represents a new design ethos for the Korean automotive company.

“The new Sports Coupe Concept is a clear and emphatic statement that the future of the Kia brand is set to be one that will excite and surprise an entirely new audience of consumers,” commented Peter Schreyer. “In making this design departure for Kia it was essential to my thinking that we did not lose sight of the fact that the Kia brand must continue to appeal to customers in the mainstream. It would have been easy to present an extreme supercar at Frankfurt that would attract plenty of attention, but could have no place in Kia’s future. Our Sports Coupe Concept is not simply a flight of fancy.”

“I believe this concept car could be a landmark vehicle in Kia’s history and I wanted it to appeal to the widest possible audience. This design is not the result of self-indulgent design excess. It incorporates a host of elements that will become the new face-of-Kia right across our product range and it is the clearest design statement about the way I want Kia to be seen as we go forwards,” added Schreyer.

Kia nabbed their new design chief from Audi Motors, Peter Schreyer. This new coupe is his first real significant move to make his own stamp on the future of Kia's design direction. I am one who has always liked Kia's body designs right down to the 1997-2001 Kia Sephia body design. They positioned it head-to-head against the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla and I thought they did a good job with the Sephia. I bought my '99 Kia Sephia for only $7,995 with a $2,000 Kia manufacturer's rebate. That was my start with Kia and we traded in our '99 Sephia for a '01 Kia Sportage 4X4. Both were good running, reliable rigs that were fun to drive and sturdy.

Although I traded our Sportage 4X4 in on a '08 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS, I wouldn't be adverse to switching back to a new Kia in the future. That Long-Haul Warranty is tops, along with Hyundai. What's cool is my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS also has a 10 year and 100,000 mile Warranty. Finbarr O'Neill, CEO of Hyundai/Kia, left for Mitsubishi and brought the generous Warranty with him. Although he has now left Mitsubishi Mitsubishi still offers the great Warranty he brought over with him.

Looking forward to seeing this new coupe in pictures from the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

himi-I saw your posts over on Edmunds.com in the Kia threads. Popular Kia threads lately over there are the Kia Rondo and Kia Amanti and Kia Spectra threads. There was a lot of activity on the Kia Optima threads on Edmunds but not so much right now.

Welcome to CCF! I just got started on CCF in August myself. Looking forward to lots of learnin' on this website ahead.
Cool..................

WOW...............cool looking concept car. I HOPE that Kia keeps most of this idea intact in a production version. It IS a different direction for them and this car WILL turn some heads. It kind of reminds me of the old Lotus Europa back in the early to mid-70's.........but this will be a much bigger car than the Europa was.

Kia HAS done some great things in the past, and I really hope that they can develop a unique niche and image SEPARATE from Hyundai. Hyundai might be popular, but they ARE kind of "bland" overall (the coupe is nice, but beyond that.........) - really good cars, but not very inspired as far as design is concerned. Maybe Kia can become the "spicy" sub-brand!!
jmsteiny-precisely my feelings about Hyundai. I have bought two Kia's but nary a Hyundai. Hyundai styling is more "bland" overall, I think they do this in order to appeal to the masses more. Like Toyota and Honda(yukko styling).

Kia is very much a separate and distinct car company that had to accept help from Hyundai in 1998 or they were literally to be doomed out of production and loss of jobs for thousands of Kia workers. Kia is the oldest South Korean car company and I am one who loves to see what they're gonna produce next. Neither of my Kia's were perfect but both of them were good, solid, competent vehicles.

This new sporty coupe is gonna turn a lot of heads. The new Kia C'eed is coming out soon and it is tamer than this new coupe but an interesting new design.

Hyundai will compete against the Kia C'eed with a new Elantra called the Elantra Touring. The Touring is also a great new design that is generating a lot of talk in the industry right now.
