Lifan's first SUV model to roll off assembly line in 2009.

February 21, 2008 - China's Lifan Group’s first SUV model will roll off assembly line in the automaker’s production base in Inner Mongolia early next year, according to Chinese media Information Times today.

The production base seated in Hohhot, capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which is pending approvals from National Development and Reform Commission and other government authorities, will be finished by the end of this year, newspaper report said.

The SUV model to be produced at the Hohhot plant will be priced at about 80,000 yuan ($11,182) to 100,000 yuan ($13,977) and will be launched in the middle of next year.

In addition to SUV models, the Hohhot plant will also produce Lifan's other models, including a MPV model.

"With this new production facility, our total capacity will be able to reach 150,000 units a year," said Hu Qi, general manager of the Lifan Group, adding that the automaker plans to launch three models including Lifan 620, 320 and 520i in a row this year. Its second plant in Chongqing will also start production this year.

Last year Lifan sold 49,809 Lifan 520 cars. The automaker aims to sell 80,000 units in 2008.

The camouflaged car is the JAC (Jianghuai) C1, not the Lifan. There are now 4 Chinese companies copying the Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 107/Citroën C1: BYD (the F1), Geely (Panda or Olympic Panda), JAC (the C1) and Lifan (120?).I think this is asking for trouble: the first problem will be in two weeks when BYD exhibits its F1 at the Geneva Auto Show.
