2017 London Taxi Company TX5 (PHEV):

First picture published of the new London Taxi Company TX5, the next generation hackney carriage from Geely's UK subsidiary. This will be a plug-in hybrid with a range-extending ICE supporting the main electric motor.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2017 at a new R&D and assembly facility in Ansty Park, Coventry, where construction work commenced this past August.
It is not known whether simultaneous production of the car or any of its components or kits will take place in China as is done for the current TX4.

Also competing in this segment of the market will be the similar New Metrocab PHEV from the Kamkorp/Frazer-Nash and Multimatic groups.

Emerald Automotive T-001

Company acquired by Geely in 2014 has been in the process of developing a PHEV/electric cargo van for some years now. Recent reports suggest it will share the platform of the upcoming TX5. It is expected to be manufactured from either next year or 2018 at LTC's new Ansty plant (see above posts) and, pending certain negotiations with Missouri authorities, at a proposed plant in Hazelwood, Missouri, USA.

Re: Emerald Automotive T-001

That was a good, detailed article.

I can't find any word yet on the outcome of Emerald's bid to build vehicles for the US Postal Service.
The Service shortlisted 6 manufacturers last year, which has come down to 5 who are now making prototypes for demonstration. The contract winner will be selected next year, hopefully.

Chinese help for Metrocab facility

Red Sun Group Co, a large Nanjing-based agrochemical company, is interested in backing LEVC's cross-town rival to bring the new Metrocab into production.

The zero-emission, new Ecotive Metrocab has been designed by Kamkorp/Frazer Nash who have been trying to bring the product to market for several years, but have been beset with legal difficulties of all manner till now. Initially, Multimatic, Inc. -- the Canadian engineering company that currently builds the Ford GT -- was roped in as manufacturing partner. Later, Kamkorp/Frazer Nash selected Coventry-based CAD CAM Automotive to help build the vehicle. (Of note, Kamkorp/Frazer Nash themselves are an advanced research & technology organization of considerable repute, and they also own Bristol Cars)

Now, CAD CAM Automotive is a supplier of lightweight aluminum body shells for OEMs (like JLR) as well as prototyping specialists. It does not have requisite facilities for large-scale auto production, but Red Sun has been investing in this company for quite some time and is reportedly a significant shareholder. Recently, Red Sun agreed to further increase investment in order to help CAD CAM Automotive set up a factory to manufacture the Metrocab and other energy-efficient vehicles derived from this platform. Apart from vehicles, Red Sun has committed to invest in installing charging infrastructure and in developing new battery technologies.

LEVC TX (China)

Delivery of the local TX officially kicked off on June 30 [1]. The first-batch of 50 cars [2] will be inducted into the CaoCao fleet (Geely's mobility service), to ply in and around Yiwu.

The Chinese-made TX, like its British counterpart, is a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It is equipped with a 120 kW electric motor supported by a 1477 cc, 100 kW gasoline turbo. Electric-only range is 200 km (NEDC) provided by a 35 kWh battery.

[1] The "line-off" taking place on 12-25-2018 was just an official ceremony to mark the completion of the plant.
[2] Retail sales show 52 TX cars registered in Jan-Jun 2020.
