Hi,

I just read that in the late 80s, North Korea brought some Mercedes 190 and copied them.

That's even crazier then the Geely Merry!

Does anybody have more information about this?

The 190 (W202) is the ancestor of the C-Class.

Apparently, the copy has been made by "Pyongyang 4.10" and later by "Paekdusan".

That's all I know.

mercedes benz W201 made in the dprk

Hello Joest, as you could imagine, I am the one who can give you the answers. You can read a lot more in my book Automobiles Made in North Korea, see http://www.chinesecars.net/index.php?page=4.
Around 1987 North Korea made a very low number of copies of the Mercedes 190 (W201, 1982-1994) from which they bought a batch. The cars were named Kaengsaeng 88, Paektusan (or Paekdusan, depends on the transcription) and Pyongyang 410 (or 4.10). Photo material is very difficult to find. On March 19, 1989, a German tourist group met by coincidence one of the cars (a Pyongyang 410) in Pyongyang, and they managed to take some photos.
This is one of them, taking by the late Meinrad Freiherr von Ow:
