"Lei Jun" EV (Dongfang Ruida ES600 rebadged)

A few photos of what is called Lei Jun EV have been circulating on the net for some time now. Speculation was rife that this was a car promoted by mobile phone maker Xiaomi, due to the similarity in logo and the name being that of Xiaomi's founder, but it appears not to be the case. It looks to be basically a rebadged Dongfang Ruida ES600 with a new grille.

Weifang Richauto

Hello Dragin, Weifang Richauto (Rainchst Auto) is the designer/developer (with TJ Innova) and manufacturer of the EA0x series vehicles which are sold under various badges by different companies. It is a member of the GoldCommon mining and property group.

Initially, 5 cars were developed, each for Levdeo, Lansel, Dinaite, Huaihai-Zongshen, and Dongfang Ruida based on the same platform and sharing more or less the same design except for the Levdeo version called D50. Huaihai-Zongshen (a joint venture between the Huaihai and Zongshen groups) got the car called K2 which is available with two different front ends.

Later, other sellers took interest in the EA0x series cars and they have exhibited rebadged versions. Weifang Richauto itself markets a version under the Lei Jun name. More recently, we saw Jiangling Motors intending to sell a rebadged version called E100 which, I am happy to report, has received State type approval. (Jiangling E100 thread)

It is pertinent to note that apart from making turnkey CBU cars, Richauto is also able to provide KD kits to sellers who have their own assembly plants.

Besides these EA0x cars, Richauto has made other cars for Lansel, i.e., HT9, HT6, and HT8. It has worked closely with TJ Innova and they even developed the short-lived Weijun microvan (MMPV project) for BAW.

I'm so impressed with the breadth of your knowledge about these minicar makers. It is definitely complex in nature, but this industry segment is a phenomenon to watch.

So perhaps we could draw a parallel, and say that EAOx is to minicar makers, what the standard Foday pickup/SUV body, is to light truck makers.

It's good to see that TJ Innova is still active.

Thank you.

It is not the only one.

Among the more "car like" LSEVs, by far the most common body is that of the Benben Mini, with its clones and numerous variations. There are perhaps more than 50 sellers which have one for sale. But in this case, the bodies/chassis are sourced from many different suppliers.

Another very good example is Green Field which, having licensed the design from TJ Innova (again!), supplies CBU/KD BO90 SUVs to different resellers for rebadging.

Lei Jun and other EA0x series minicar production process:
Looking at the lack of structural integrity of these products, combined with the lack of regulation you discussed in earlier posts, I wonder how many fatalities it will take before the authorities and C-NCAP make provisions to star rate these vehicles for crashworthiness.

The mini Chery QQ and Chang'an Benben have undergone rating for some time now.
