It looks to me like Nanjing have got one over on SAIC AGAIN!!!

Nanjing appear to have finshed off the NV6 which was the replacement for the K series V6 that MG Rover were developing. The new Nv6 is Euro IV compliant and more powerfull than the K series. In addition it is also supposed to be more reliable as the old K series had a few bugs with Head gaskets blowing. As far as I can see SAIC are planning to use exactly the same engine that Rover were planning to get rid of because of reliaiblity issues and lack of Euro IV compliance.

Oh by the way I forgot to mention that the MG NV6 engineering project was largely completed by Lotus....who are quite good at that kind of thing...

Yes, Nanjing MG can celebrate. , especially as SAICs engine is going in a car that has put on 100Kg of weight and is over a second slower to 100Kph than the one they have copied!

Yes, it tells us that the MG Rover engines they used to use up until MG was sold to Nanjing have been unavailable while the production lines where being moved to Nanjing and that Lotus did not keep large stockpiles of engines!

If they continue to use Toyota engines after the MG engines are available again then that might suggest something different; however I wouldn't be at all supprised if they swopped to MG's N Series engines once they are in full production.

Fantastic news! Nanjing will is gonna be better off now as a result of this. Imagine if Nanjing began putting these new V6 engines into the the RWD version of the MG ZT (which originally only had the V8). These would be fantastic BMW 3 series alternatives. I can't wait to see what they have instore for the future.

SAIC have got their Roewe 750 into production first and have given the rear seat passengers more room and the whole car a convincing face lift over what was the aging R75 design.

Has Nanjing actually built their MG7 yet, or are they still sticking badges on Longbridge built vehicles and using Photoshop?

Let's see what Nanjing come up with in terms of the overall package.

Lotus have said on many occasions that they are big fans of the K Series as it turns out a lot of power in a compact design. In fact Lotus ironed out the Head Gasket problems on the Elise and so it was a very good engine for them. I suspect they will dump the Toyota engine as soon as they can get hold of the Nanjing version (which they have had a hand in designing).

The wrong way loewe thingy is only being sold in China. Wonder if that's got anything to do with how it's built? Nanjing's version are using BMW technology such as the clam shell robots to build their versions. I know what I'd buy. Leg room or not.

The main reason for the introduction of the Toyota engine to some of the Lotus models was that the MG-Rover engines had no dealers/service/suppliers etc in the USA as MG's where not sold there. With MG's back on sale in the US, this problem will soon be sorted.

I always though it was a shame that the Rover 75(the names sound kind of the same don't they?) only got four, according to the EuroNCAP website (www.euroncap.com) the 75 just barely didn't get 5 stars in frontal safety and Rover could have easily acheived it. Well, I hope that Nanjing seizes the opportunity. But, why don't they just call it the Nanjing 750, what's wrong with the name they already have?

Doh. Nanjing own the MG brand and SAIC own the Roewe brand. The Nanjing version (Z7) will be made using state of the art equipment shipped in from Europe. The SAIC version will be made using different equipment. The SAIC version of the Rover 75 will be stretched and will use the K series engine, which had Head Gasket issues and is only Euro 3 compliant. The MG version will be given an updated more powerfull engine which won't have head gasket issues (and which will have been breathed on by Lotus). Oh and it will be Euro 4 compliant.

Nanjing will use the MG brand because it has global recognition and a large loyal fanbase. SAIC have invented a name because they were outbid by Ford for the Rover brand. Hope this helps. Oh and Nanjing will make an Estate version because 50 million pounds buys you all the tooling for 4 cars (some of which is state of the art), 4 historic car brands, a UK production site and an international dealer network.
