The Geely Emgrand EC7 earned the most points for its chairs in the whiplash test of all the 14 tested cars (including the new Mercedes B-Class, C-Class Coupe, Jaguar XF, new VW Beetle, Chevrolet Malibu and Jeep Grand Cherokee :thumb:

Geely needs to work on this:

"There was considerable deformation in driver's footwell area, with tearing of the metal in places. The car was penalised for this collapse, resulting in the protection of the driver's feet and ankles being rated as poor."

A 5 star rating should be in reach after that.

The unofficial and official Euro NCAP crash tests with Chinese cars.

The official European crash test institution Euro NCAP has tested three Chinese cars, see number 17, 21 and 22.

Besides, some other institutes have tested Chinese cars, using the severe regulations of the Euro NCAP.

Here is a complete list until date.

1. September 2005: Jiangling Landwind X6. ZERO STARS.
Commissioned by a number of European consumer organisations, most important: ADAC, ANWB and ÖAMTC, probably for a German car manufacturer. The estimated rating was zero stars (1 point out of 16).

2. February 2006: Chery QQ (Sweet, QQ3). ONE STAR.
Commissioned by the car magazine Autoreview.ru, done by the FSUE NICIAMT passive safety laboratory. Car was numbered 706. The estimated rating was one star (4.9 point out of 16).

3. June 2007: Chery Amulet (A15, Qiyun, Banner Cloud). ZERO STARS.
Commissioned by the car magazine Autoreview.ru, for the Russian car manufacturer Autovaz, done by the Autovaz laboratory. Car was numbered 964. The estimated rating was zero stars (1.7 point out of 16).

4. June 2007: Brilliance BS 6 (Grandeur, Zunchi). ZERO to ONE STAR.
Commissioned by a number of European consumer organisations, most important: ADAC, ÖAMTC and AMWB, probably for a German car manufacturer. The estimated rating was zero to one star. (see also number 5)

5. September 2007: Brilliance BS 6 (Grandeur, Zunchi). THREE STARS.
Commissioned by the European Brilliance importer HSO. Done by the Spanish Idiada Institute. The estimated rating was three stars. (see also number 4)

6. December 2007: Geely Otaka (CK, Ziyoujian, Free Fleet). ZERO STARS.
Commissioned by the car magazine Autoreview.ru, for the Russian car manufacturer Autovaz, done by the Autovaz laboratory. Car was numbered 1004. The estimated rating was zero stars (1.7 point out of 16). (see also number 16)

7. December 2007: BYD F3. THREE STARS.
Commissioned by the Russian car importer Irito, done by the FSUE NICIAMT passive safety laboratory. Car was numbered 809. The estimated rating was three stars (10.2 point out of 16). (see also number 8)

8. (?) 2008: BYD F3. ONE STAR.
Commissioned by the car magazine Autoreview.ru, for the Russian car manufacturer Autovaz, done by the Autovaz laboratory. Car was numbered 1075. The estimated rating was one stars (6.0 point out of 16). (see also number 7)

9. April 2008: Lifan Breez (520). THREE AND A HALF STARS.
Commissioned by the Russian car distributor Eastern Ltd. and the Derways Assembly Plant, done by the FSUE NICIAMT passive safety laboratory. Car was numbered 814. The estimated rating was three and a half stars (21,5 point).

10. August 2008: Chery Tiggo 3 (T11). ONE STAR.
Commissioned by the Russian car magazine Vnedorozhnik, done by the FSUE NICIAMT passive safety laboratory. Car was numbered 832. The estimated rating was one star (2.8 point out of 16).

11. March 2009: Brilliance BS4 (Junjie sedan). THREE STARS.
Commissioned by a number of European consumer organisations, most important: ADAC, ÖAMTC and AMWB, probably for a German car manufacturer. The estimated rating was three stars (6,85 point out of 16). ADAC claimed that the car should have zero stars as the testprotocol had changed a couple of weeks before the test. ADAC stated that each car without ESC should get zero points. Later it came out that this was a lie. The other consumerorganisations like ANWB, TCS and OAMTC disagreed and staid to the old testprotocol, giving the car three stars.

12. September 2009: Great Wall V240 Steed (Wingle, Fengjun) Dual cab pickup. TWO STARS.
Commissioned by the ANCAP (according Australian standards, compatible with EuroNCAP) at the RTA Crashlab at Huntingwood, NSW. Car was numbered B09034. The rating was two stars (2.36 out of 16, overall score 16.49).

13. September 2009: Great Wall SA220 Sailor (Sailing) Dual cab pickup. TWO STARS.
Commissioned by the ANCAP (according Australian standards, compatible with EuroNCAP) at the RTA Crashlab at Huntingwood, NSW. Car was numbered B09035. The rating was two stars (2.32 out of 16, overall score 16.49).

14. (?) 2010: Geely MK (Kingkong, LG-1). TWO STARS.
Commissioned by the car magazine Autoreview.ru, for the Russian car manufacturer Autovaz, done by the Autovaz laboratory. Car was numbered 1171. The estimated rating was two stars (6.5 point out of 16). (see also number 19)

15. March 2010: Great Wall X240 Hover (Haval, Hafu, H3). FOUR STARS.
Commissioned by the ANCAP (according Australian standards, compatible with EuroNCAP) at the RTA Crashlab at Huntingwood, NSW. Car was numbered B10018. The rating was four stars (9.48 out of 16, overall score 25.48).

16. October 2010: Geely CK-1 (Free Cruiser, Ziyoujian). ZERO STARS. (see also number 6)
Commissioned by the LatinNCAP (according SouthAmerican standards, compatible with EuroNCAP) at the ADAC crashlab in Germany. Car was numbered FO2310GCK1. The rating was 1,06 for the adult occupant (zero stars) and 20,37 for the child occupant (two stars). (see also number 6)

17. November 2010: Jiangling Landwind CV9. TWO STARS.
The first Chinese car officially tested by the EuroNCAP (Brussels, Belgium), test at TNO/TTAI, Tiel, The Netherlands. Cars were numbered F103605/F103606. The rating was: adult occupant 12 points (front impact 9, side impact 3.4, whiplash test 0), child occupant 22 points, pedestrian 11 points, safety assist 2 points (final result two stars, 12 points).

18. April 2011: Chery A1 (J1). THREE STARS.
Commissioned by the ANCAP (according Australian standards, compatible with EuroNCAP) at the RTA Crashlab at Huntingwood, NSW. Car was numbered B11014. The rating was three stars (5.23 out of 16, overall score 16.97 out of 37).

19. May 2011: Geely MK (LG-1/LG-3) sedan and hatch (King Kong/Golden Eagle, Jingang/Jinying), now sold as Englon (Yinglun). THREE STARS.
Commissioned by the ANCAP (according Australian standards, compatible with EuroNCAP) at the RTA Crashlab at Huntingwood, NSW. Car was numbered B11016. The rating was three stars (8.46 out of 16, overall score 20.56 out of 37). (see also number 14)

20. September 2011: Chery Tiggo T11 (J11). TWO STARS.
Commissioned by the ANCAP (according Australian standards, compatible with EuroNCAP) at the RTA Crashlab at Huntingwood, NSW. Car was numbered B11029. The rating was two stars (2 out of 16, overall score 6 out of 37) (interim results published). (see also number 10)

21. November 2011: Geely Emgrand EC7. FOUR STARS.
Commissioned by the Euro/NCAP (Brussels, Belgium), tested at Applus-Idiada, Sta Olvia, Spain. Cars were numbered 114101LE, 114103DE, 114104JE. The rating was: adult occupant 27 points, child occupant 39 points, pedestrian 15 points, safety assist 6 points (final result four stars).

22. November 2011: MG 6. FOUR STARS.
Commissioned by the Euro/NCAP (Brussels, Belgium), tested at MIRRC Thatcham Crash Laboratory, Thatcham UK. Cars were numbered K9403/ K9452/ K9603. The rating was: adult occupant 26 points, child occupant 35 points, pedestrian 15 points, safety assist 5 points (final result four stars).



Be careful: at least two tests are described in the press as Euro NCAP, as they are in reality Euro R94 tests. The main difference is the speed of the collision (56 km/h in stead of 64 km/h).
These are the Irito/Niciamt test of the Brilliance M2 (BS4, Splendor, Junjie) of February 2008 and the CATARC (Chinese test institute) test of the Great Wall Hover of July 2007.

C-NCAP conducted 4th and final crash test in 2011. Results are as follows.

Hyundai Sonata got 50.7 points (★★★★★☆)
Emgrand EC8 - 49.6 points (★★★★★)
Toyota Reiz - 49 points (★★★★★)
Peugeot 508 - 48.9 points (★★★★★)
KIA Sportage R - 48.6 points (★★★★★)
Honda Civic - 48.3 points (★★★★★)
Buick GL8 - 47.7 points (★★★★★)
BYD S6 - 46 points (★★★★★)
JAC Heyue - 46 points (★★★★★)

All above cars got maximum number of points. Haima, ChangAn and V2 did't perform so well.

New Haima Family scored 41.7 points (★★★★). Even worse performed ChangAn CX20 (35.8 points, three stars) and FAW V2 which got only 31.2 points for its safety performance.

According too the China Daily newspaper there were 70,000 people killed and 300,000 injured in traffic accidents alone in China 2011. The Car is new to the people of China and on personal note ; I think is the worst thing to come to China roads in the last decade. The drivers are not educated and lack knowledge in driving skills. Snow and Ice in Northern China is scarped off the roads by human force. They have no sanders or snow plows to maintain the highways. The drivers are there own worst enemy. They lack skill and good driving ethics; They tend to speed any chance they get . Im first mentality prevails in China . The drivers license is just a card and is not worth the paper it is printed on .

First batch of crash tests was conducted by CNCAP in 2012. Almost all tested cars performed excellent except BYD G6 which was the only car not to receive maximum number of stars.

I guess its a natural evolution - compare Europe's roads and cars now with the way they were 20 years ago. Fantastic to see things improving in terms of safety in China.

After several good results Chinese cars again dissapointed with their safety results. Beijing E-series and Haima Aishang received only three and two stars at latest C-NCAP test. Baojun 630 performance was enough for 4 stars while ChangAn Eado received maximum number of stars with 52.9 safety points. The highest scoring vehicle at test was Honda CRV.

The reason of the disappointing results is that the frontal test is now done with 64km/h in stead of 56km/h. That makes an important diffference. We can now compare the C-NCAP results with the E-NCAP results. I don't think it is right to compare the new testresults with the old C-NCAP results. Even the way of counting has changed.
