Brilliance China Automotive Holdings, the Chinese partner of BMW, has inked an agreement with Pyeonghwa Motors of South Korea to assemble its Jinbei Haice mini-buses in North Korea.

Pyeonghwa has set a sales target of 12,000 units over five years for the CKD vehicles.
It also wants to bring the Haice and Brilliance’s Zhonghua sedans into South Korea. This gives Zhonghua another boost, following it’s a deal last November with HSO Motors Europe, a German car importer, to ship 158,000 unit to Europe over the next five years.

In a joint statement, the companies said that if the Haice project is successful, they are “very likely to consider further cooperation on the production of Brilliance China's other brands of vehicles in North Korea.”

Pyeonghwa has a joint venture assembly plant in North Korea, which is 30% owned by the North Korean government.

It also signed a contract in November last year with HSO Motors Europe, a German auto importer, to ship 158,000 units of its Zhonghua branded cars to Europe over the next five years.

Brilliance China's 2006 unit sales surged more than 70% to 210,000 vehicles, including 8,655 exports.

Yes, the Unification Church reportedly pulled out of Pyeonghwa several years ago. Now the company simply imports dozens of models from different Chinese manufacturers and puts its own badge on them.

Erik has compiled a list of all the known imports with their Pyeonghwa model names. The Jetta was sold as the Hwiparam 1607.

The Pyeonghwa operation in Vuetnam, if it's still going, would remain part of the Unification Church's Mekong Auto company.

I have some news for Gag.

Records from this Vietnamese government site show Pronto (SUV) and Premio II (pickup) production till 2013 and 2014 respectively. The last column is Production Year. I have compiled screen captures into one image below.

However sales of the Pronto and Premio are still continuing in Vietnam, possibly made from stocks of CKD kits, or stocks of completed vehicles.

Vietnam sales report December 2016
Vietnam sales report March 2017

In China, Huanghai has already stopped production of the SUVs (including Challenger) for some time, and I believe the older pickups are also not being made (not 100% sure since pickup sales & production figures are not usually divided into models, but some old records on Chinese LCV sales published on Best Selling Cars Blog showed the total of N1+N2 sales as being equal to Huanghai light truck sales for some months in 2016). It is likely Huanghai is concentrating on the N-series of pickups right now, more so after its acquisition by Hawtai. In this scenario, I don't know how likely it is for Huanghai to be still making and exporting CKD kits for their outdated models.
