It's too dowdy looking for the US market though (I believe this is one of the cars coming to the US, right?)

It needs more flair and macho-ness for the US market. Some 19" rims with low profile tires would be a good start. The sides are too slab-sided. Add some creases in them. A ground effect option would be cool too.

I need a people carrier as one of my cars. I definitely got my eyes on this one. Bring it to the US soon!

"Chery V5

Chery has unveiled its model, a New Crossover at the Hangzhou Motor Show in China.

The car, which was originally unveiled at the 2004 Beijing Auto Show under the code name B14 is a 6-7-seater minivan developed with independent intellectual property rights. Chery was assisted by Lotus Engineering and a couple of Italian companies in the development of the new vehicle.

V525 is the first member of the V5 family, powered by a 2350 cc locally-sourced Mitsubishi engine, capable of 95 kW @ 5500 rpm and 198 Nm @ 3000 rpm.

The car rides on a 2800 mm (110.2-in.) long platform. Main dimensions are: 4662 x 1820 x 1590 mm (183.5 x 71.6 x 62.6-in.). Standard equipment includes four airbags, ABS + EBD and traction control systems, electrically operated windows, GPS navigation, DVD player etc.

It will go on sale in China in June, and this will be one of the first models to be offered in North America.

Funny it mentions "Independant Intellectual property rights", but didnt China hater say that it was built atop the Magnus Chassis?

wider I would say is just the angle. lower, yes, but it is likely either a differenr spring set (still in development) or it has a load of stuff in the trunk.

question of independent intellectual property or not is difficult. I would guess the magnus was the base, but it's been modified / altered. at what point the modification is sufficient to win in court will be decided between chery's and hater's lawyers who are apparently waiting at the dockside for these cars.

The V5 is very attractive for a Minivan, I expect with Lotus suspension this would be pretty much near the top of field for handling.

1 problem if Chery are planning exports I'd stick a V6 under the covers also curtain airbags for further down the track.

Overall 8/10
