superb drive ...use tiptronic ....0-100KMH from standstill ....11sec !Powerful Mistubishi 2.4 engine ......

Chery’s B240 MPV has been relaunched in Malaysia as a locally assembled car and it is now called the Chery Eastar. The locally assembled Chery Eastar MPVs will roll out of Oriental Assembler Sdn Bhd’s plant in Johor, but a new CKD plant will be up and running in Pekan, Pahang by the end of 2009. The Pekan plant will include an investment of over RM50 million in equipment and will begin assembly of up to 100,000 Chery vehicles a year, including 10 models such as hybrids, SUVs, MPVs and executive cars.

According to Chery Alado Sdn Bhd’s chairman Tan Sri Cam Soh Thiam Hong, more details on the plant will be announced in the next two months together with its joint venture partners which may include a GLC. “Malaysia is the largest passenger car market in ASEAN and also the important link for Chery to other ASEAN countries’ market. We currently have 7 other overseas factories in countries like Russia, Iran, Egypt and Argentina and are planning to accelerate more overseas factories in the coming 2 years,” said Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co Ltd’s president Yin Tongyao.

Chery currently exports 120,000 vehicles yearly and plans to hit 400,000 vehicles by 2010. As it is, the Malaysian plant will export 30% of its Chery Eastar production to countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and Australia. Local sales of the MPV is expected to be between 120 to 200 units monthly.

Under the hood of the 7-seater Chery Eastar MPV is a 2.4 liter SOHC Mitsubishi long-stroke engine producing a rather sedate 127 horsepower at 5,500rpm and 198Nm of torque at 3,000rpm. This is quite a conservatively-tuned basic engine (SOHC, 9:1 compression) which does not produce much power for its displacement but should be relatively easy on maintenance. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting. The MPV measures 4662mm long, 1820mm wide and 1590mm tall with a long 2800mm wheelbase.

The new Chery Eastar is priced at RM79,888 for the standard version and RM86,888 for the high-spec version. The standard version includes LED rear lamps, side turn indicators on the wing mirrors, all-round disc brakes, a radio cassette player with 6 speakers, manual windows and 16 inch steel wheels while the premium version adds a CD player with MP3 support, steering wheel audio controls, ABS brakes, traction control, power windows for all four doors, dual SRS airbags for the front, and 16 inch alloy wheels. Further options include 18 inch alloy wheels and an NGV kit.

The high-spec version adds It comes with 1 year free service (for the first 1,000 units sold) and a 3+2 year warranty.

Chery Automobile Malaysia has introduced another Eastar MPV variant, this one being known as the XT. Its arrival brings to three the number of seven-seater Eastar versions in the country, the others being the regular ES and upkitted ST, which was introduced a year ago.

No mechanical changes to the running gear – the Eastar continues with the 2.0 ACTECO unit, good for 134 hp at 5,750 rpm and 180 Nm at 4,400 rpm, mated to a four-speed auto transmission.

What’s new on the Eastar XT? Well, new design headlamps, for one, and there are interior upgrades such as leather seats, a six-speaker DVD player/navigation system and LED display screens for rear occupants, these being located behind the driver and passenger seat headrests. Oh, and there’s a reverse camera as well. Safety kit includes ABS, EBD and dual airbags.

The Eastar XT is priced at RM94,040, on-the-road with insurance, which makes it cheaper that the ST when that first arrived (RM96,888 when launched last year). Available exterior colours are Sunbeam Silver, Mystic Black, Brown Silver, Chili Red, Sapphire Silver and Snow White.

Hi SAG I'm call Mohaz from Labuan, actually my attention to get new MPV Chery cross easter soon, but before that since you bought this call MPV how was it so far got any problem?. I meant how the spare part wise, as known this MPV spare part rarely sell on the auto hardware shop. Appreciate if you can share with me

The Chery Reely brand was officially launched today by Chery, bringing the world yet another automotive brand.

Whilst Riich is Chery’s upmarket brand, Reely will be Chery’s MPV/Business brand that will see a range of MPV’s and other ‘business vehicles’ being launched under it over the next six months. The first vehicle to be launched by Reely is the Reely V5. You might recognise the Reely V5 as basically the old Chery V5 7 seater station wagon, but it has undergone some slight rhinoplasty and has also been given a nice new diesel engine.

The latest diesel engine from Chery, a 1.9 TDDI high compression diesel engine will find its way into the Reely V5 alongside 1.8, 2.0L gasoline engines with 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic gearboxes being available for consumers.

The V5’s pricing is set rather low with the cheapest starting at 100,980rmb, rising to 140,980rmb for the top model.

Chery also revealed that their new Reely brand is actually an acronym rather than a random word they picked out of the dictionary and mangled up to be cool and down with the kids, Reely actually stands for Reliable, Economic, Leading, and Young, Chery do seem to be missing an E somewhere though.

I've bought one of these two years ago (ca. rmb 120,000) for my company use. 70,000 kms on and no major issues.

I drive it quite a bit, especially when there are four of us going to play golf - perfect. And the car has got a lot of compliments for it's comfort even from Americans and Brits.

However it uses a lot more petrol than the Dong Fang Zhi Zi (which used to have the same 2.4 Mitsubishi engine in it) and it is definitely slower (to be expected). The triptonic style transmission also doesn't seem as smooth as in the Dong Fang Zhi Zi. Car naturally wallows a little when pushed into corners too.

Still a very good and much cheaper option to the Odyssey etc. and I would have no hesitation in recommending it if someone was considering buying one.

Thanks for the valuable feedback on this model. Sounds good.
But it is a bit of a stretch to compare it to the Odyssey since the latter is a full-sized MPV with automatic sliding doors, fold-away seats and all. Other than passengers, the cargo capacity of this one looks a bit limited. Kind of like a large station wagon, or perhaps a Highlander.

True of course. But then the Odyssey costs soooo much more !

However the Chery's people carrying ability is good and the rear seats fold down flat to give you load carrying space (4 sets of gold clubs plus holdalls etc. etc.). So 4 or 5 people and all their golf gear, or 7 people if you have children in the back seats (or two very small adults). A good large family car.
