Re: Rely X5 SUV

Thanks for the great photos Staylight*....

According to China Car Times the bold rugged look we are seeing here is betrayed by quality that would give one the impression that the doors are made of "recycled moth wings". I love the choice of words but in seriousness can anyone concur with, or challenge, that observation?

Chery to enter 2010 Dakar Rally

From China Car Times:
It has been said by many, that if Chinese cars want to have some prestige in the West then they must first enter into motorsport, once they have shown their mark to the world, then they will sell.

Chery and Greatwall seem to have taken the advice well, and are planning to enter their own teams into the 2010 Dakar Rally. Chery are reportedly preparing their flagship Reely X5 SUV for the race, whilst Greatwall are race preparing their top selling Greatwall Hover SUV.

Chery have prepared their X5 well, with it being able to traverse water obstacles at a depth of over 600mm deep, and being able to climb hills at a gradient of over 60%.

Chery’s flagship X5 SUV which will be sold under the Reely sub brand is expected to launch this month on the 28th according to auto reports. The X5 recently took part in the Paris-Dakar rally where it did reasonably well for a first try at the terrain, and certainly proved its worth as an offroader.

Pricing is expected to start at a reasonable 159,800rmb for the base 2.0TCI version. Its the first time that this engine has been used in an SUV, whilst not being an absolute beast of an engine it can push out 235Nm of torque and 146kW of power which will be enough for most inner city jaunts and the occasional light offroading. A turbo diesel version is also planning to launch.

Chery will soon launch the refreshed version of the X5, which is a sales flop to date. Chery sold only 2.059 units of the X5 in 2010 and last month only 127. There will be two engine options: the 2.0 TCI with 170 PS and the 1.9 TDDI diesel engine with 126 PS.
