Article about new QQ on China Car Times:

The QQ2 shares some exterior design elements with its big brother, the Chery A1. The similarities dont end with the exterior design, the chassis is also the A1’s according to our sources. The A1 is an excellent little motor with an excellent interior (odd clanging noise when you close the doors though) for its price range, the interior on this though.
Down to the ultra basics on the dash, just the gear stick, a large lump of plastic with a speedo/odometer on it and either a cassette player from Cherys old stock room, or a CD player. This QQ2 is so bare bones, it doesn’t even have a glove box (although we’re sure the Chery design team will factor one in to the design before production begins)

The QQ2 will be 3600cm long, 1600cm wide, 1550cm tall - so it really is a micro car. The QQ2 has also been mated to a range of engines, including an 800cc, a 1.1, and a 1.3.

The QQ2 was designed by Torino design, who were also responsible for some of the other models in the Chery portfolio, namely the Shooting Star, the Fengyun coupe, and the Tiggo SUV. The QQ2 will come with both 3 door, and 5 door models both in saloon and hatchback styles. Chery also plan to really work the QQ range over the next few months, we’ve heard of plans for a QQ 1, this QQ2, new QQ3, QQ5, QQ6, QQ coupe, and a QQ SUV.

Chery to release QQ2 at Beijing auto show.

April 7, 2008 - Chery Automobile plans to roll out a new QQ2, along with an extensive series of new models at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show, the Xinhua new agency reported today.

The automaker is set to hit a record of its own by showing 29 car models and holding a total exhibition sector of 2,500 square meters, the report said.

But perhaps the most significant launch will be that of its all-new QQ2, according to a separate report from Edmunds. com.

The new model, like its predecessor, is a tiny hatchback with lots of personality and distinctive features.

The little urban cruiser is likely to be priced from less than $4,000, since Chery hopes to consolidate its dominance at the low end of the market. That means the basic model will be no-frills, powered by an 800cc engine. Options will include larger power plants (up to 1.3 liters), a CD player and a few other goodies that younger Chinese buyers are starting to demand even in entry-level cars. Chery will offer both three- and five-door variants.

The QQ2 -- developed under the internal code name S18 -- was also reportedly styled in Italy by Torino Design, which also created the Chery Tiggo crossover.

The models to be displayed at the event also include QQ3, QQ5, QQ6, Qiyun, A5, Dongfang Zhizi, Tiggo and Higgo passenger cars and their hybrid editions.

Chery Faira

At Beijing Auto show Chery will present a family of small concept cars named Faira.

The QQ range of cars brought Chery under the international motoring spotlight, it was clearly the start of things to come, the ‘clone wars‘ were starting! Now it seems that Chery are putting the QQ range behind them, the QQ3 was a success, the QQ6 was quite frankly, one of the worst cars we have ever seen. The new hatchback range from Chery is a mixed lot, some are excellent, others leave us scratching our heads and wondering what its all about.

The latest range really do show that Chery are emerging as a car maker, maturing, and finding niche markets that they can expand into or solve problems for.

Chery has a new secret model, the Faira, or ‘Wu Wa‘ in Chinese. The Faira appears to be the Chinese answer to the Smart car - its a 3 door, 2 seater vehicle that is best suited to inner city travel rather than inter city highway runs.

The Fairer is obviously for only two people, Chery came up with a solution to that problem and made a Faira mini SUV, a ’soft roader’ with SUV looks. The Faira JJ has some interesting looks to it, the side profile is looking a lot like the Suzuki SX4, and the front profile reminds us of the Great Wall Perri:

Chery Faira

For those consumers that dont like the extra cladding or two seater cars, then Chery have come up with a QQ-esque little saloon. This little saloon is to be named the Faira HH:

The below Faira hot hatch is something we have been yearning for for quite some time! The Faira YY looks pretty sporty!

Could the Faira range of mini hatchbacks be the death of the iconic QQ range? The QQ range did bring Chery both fame and infamy with the QQ3 - a clone of the Daewoo Matiz. The QQ3 became for China what the VW Beetle and Mini did for their respective countries, the QQ3 was a run away success, it combined low pricing with high end designs and some pretty decent technology! Some higher end QQ’s did come with semi automatic gearboxes and digital dashboards. Engine power for the Faira range is expected to be from the 1.3l range of ATECO engines, and possibly a 1.5l for the sports version!

Chery to launch cheap convertible for under $12,000.

Chery Automobile is planning to launch a low-priced convertible model as part of its new Faira series, priced from around $11,400.

The Faira family of subcompacts -- including hatchback, sedan and crossover models -- was unveiled last week at the Beijing auto show. The Chinese name is fu wa, for the mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Chery executive Li Feng said all five Faira models, including the convertible, will go into production in 2009. Prices will start at just over $7,150 for the basic hatchback.

"We want to get into every niche market in the small-car segment," said Li.

Chery to postpone launch of Faira NN to 2009.

September 11, 2008 - Chery Faira NN, one of the five Faira family cars showcased at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show in April by Chery, has its launch into the market delayed to 2009, said Chery Automobile spokesman Jin Yibo yesterday, Beijing Times reported.

Chery is looking for a suitable time to release new products for meeting the market demand, Jin Yibo said in a hand-over ceremony of Chery offering courtesy cars for Shenzhou-7 astronauts who are about to carry out their space mission on the launch of China's manned spacecraft Shenzhou-7.

Chery will only roll out A3 sedan version and A3 hatchback within the year, he said. The two models will go on sale by the end of September and November respectively. The launch of the Chery Faira NN will be postponed until next year.
