Chinese auto manufacturer Chery displayed its A6 Coupe Concept, the company’s first coupe model, at last year’s Shanghai Auto Show. Now the new model has finished its testing and is about to go into production.
The Chery A6 coupe will likely go on sale to the public in the second half of 2008, after the launch of its sibling the A6 sedan. This move indicates that, aside from its rapid-growing compact car business, the Anhui province-based carmaker also targets China’s luxury market.
The front-wheel drive A6 coupe is built on Chery’s B2 platform with a wheelbase of 106.3 inches and three engine options available: a 3.0-liter V-6, a 2.4-liter V-6, and a 2.0-liter turbo four. It will also come with four- or six-speed transmission options.
Zhang Lin, the director of Chery International Business Dept., recently said that the export sales of Chery Auto in 2007 have doubled compared with those of 2006, finishing top among all the Chinese auto manufacturers. The company hopes that its export volume can account for half of its total sales by 2012.
