Well, it is pretty amazing how many car project are going on in China. In Russia we are not so lucky regarding to what is happening in industrial scale, but actually it is going quite a lot when it is coming to custom made cars.

Recently, Moscow based atelier Pemespiba has shawn its latest creation Volga V8 Roadster (its design is based on iconic GAZ-21 Volga from the 50-60s, while its mechanic are derived from BMW 645).

Now that this project has been completed, they have started another project basing its design on another Soviet icon GAZ-51 truck (the king of the countryside roads  ). Well the mechanics will be those of Cadillac Escalade EXT, while the bodywork will be completely original featuring a lacquered trunk of red wood.

Another Russian company specialising in custom cars "El Motors" unveiled its M20 "Pobeda" last spring. The car is using M-B CL600 underpinnings, therefore the performance is as per original donor, but the bodywork is completely new.

This car took a part in this year's race on the streets of Moscow "Grand Prix Don-Stroy" (a kind of legalized street race where only supercars can take place).

Yeah, I love "Pobeda" too. What do you think about "Volga V8" on the above pictures? One interesting feature of it, is that its bodywork is made completely of metal (as you might probably know, in one off cases like this people usually use fibreglass as it is cheaper and easier to work with).

By the way, in this forum
http://cardesign.ru/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=1;t=149;st=0
there are couple of people who were involved in Pobeda's design. Obviously, they moan that the car came out not as good as it could be because the customer did not listen to them. The nicknames of the guys are "Коржик" and "Cлава КПCC". Though I did not see there any posts from "Коржик" for a while, "Cлава КПCC" is replying in the forum on the regular basis. If you are interested, you always can ask him a question.

The Volga is nice but I much prefer the Pobeda as its design has more modern surfacing along with tasteful and select retro design cues. I also personally love its proportions (long, low and wide).

Yeah I know, I remember seeing a bunch of pictures of it when it was under construction. Quite amazing when you think about all of the skill and effort that would have been required in putting it together.

I think the Volga looks cool, so does the Roadster. If I had money to burn, I'd get one of those Russian custom cars and maybe drive it on the weekend as a collector's item. The Volga has a long history.

I've thought that you were Russian, how come you cannot read it?

I will try to find out for you how much Volga costs, as I was hanging around with friends who are good friends of those guys who built it. To find out about Pobeda will be more difficult, though I met the director of El Motors couple of times, it was long time ago and I don't think he remembers me at all.

Oh that Popeda is beautiful.

I wish the Russian car industry would come out with some nice mass market cars. The only new Russian car in Europe right now is the rather boring Lada Kalina.

How about a retro version of the Zhiguli?

According to guys who were making Volga they will do it for you for +/- USD100,000 (depending on difficulty level of the project) + you have to provide the car, the mechanics of which you would like to use.

It seems Russian affaire with Volga is never ending. There is one more project that just came out. It is based on the mechanics of Porsche Cayenne Turbo. At the moment it is using the standard engine fro Cayenne Turbo, but the owner seems to be inclined to tune it up to 700 BHP.

I share his affliction. Its not the language, its that damn cyrillic alphabet that makes communication impossible. A russian speaking parent can teach little Bassie to read and write, but try to convince a first grade teacher that the little boy is not retarded when he starts with the backward lettering.
Harasho?
