Saleen announces three vehicles

Saleen officially announced three vehicles for China at an event yesterday: the S1, an SUV called MAC, and the Maimai micro electric. The S1 is a 457 hp sports coupe that was originally unveiled in 2017 (see above). The MAC is a conventional SUV with a power output of 400 hp; not much else was revealed about this car. [A Saleen S7 Le Mans Special Edition, limited to just 7 units worldwide, was also displayed.]

Saleen Maimai

The 2-seat Maimai (迈迈) is an updated version of the MyCar that was originally developed by EuAuto Technology of Hong Kong and later made by GreenTech Automotive, an erstwhile subsidiary of WM Industries [corrected].

There seems to be a lot of misinformation on the web regarding who owns what and how the different Saleen/GTA/WM companies are related. The corporate databases in China give a different picture of how the current Saleen companies are organized. I think this can be traced to (what now appears to be) a poorly researched article from Car News China linked in post#1, which every English/Western site writing about post-2017 Saleen parroted. I myself have written erroneous facts in some of the posts here. Once I have waded through the web of companies, I might try to make some sense out of it.

The current organization of Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technology Co. and Jiangsu GTA Automotive Technology Co. is presented below. These are the two main companies (along with a few subsidiaries) that are engaged in the Saleen venture in China.

Wang Xiaolin (Xiaolin "Charles" Wang) is the chief executive/chairman of WM Industries Corp., Capital Wealth Holdings, and Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technology Co.

Saleen Automotive, Inc. is still with Steve Saleen. It has an agreement with Saleen Motors International (owned by WM Industries Corp.) for distribution of US-made/modified cars throughout most of the world, except N. America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.

The Saleen venture in China is owned principally by Wang Xiaolin, with a one-third stake held by the Rugao City government. Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technology Co. was originally founded in July 2009 under a different name by two firms belonging to the Rugao govt. In Feb. 2016, another Rugao govt. firm (Nantong Jiahe) took over the company. Shortly afterwards (in March), four companies belonging to Wang Xiaolin's groups invested in the company, and the Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technology Co. received its current name in June 2016.

Most English sites, even Wikipedia, will say that Saleen is owned by Jiangsu Secco Automobile Technology Corporation, which is apparently related to Sinopec-financed Shanghai Secco Petrochemical Co. Ltd. This was the information published in the Car News China article in Nov. 2017. No company called Jiangsu Secco Automobile Technology Corporation was ever involved with Saleen, and neither had Sinopec or Shanghai Secco Petrochemical Co. been ever associated with Saleen. All five shareholders shown in the diagram below have controlled Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technology Co. since 2016.

Jiangsu GTA Automotive Technology Co. is a new company founded in 2018.

Saleen Maimai

Maimai launched:
https://www.autohome.com.cn/news/201911/950323.html

This decade-and-a-half old design although updated visually and mechanically is being offered at rather ambitious prices. There are numerous superior (in performance, range, and practicality) options available in the Chinese market at comparable or lower price points.

Yes, starting back in 2003, this Mycar derivative enjoyed a colorful history, having been developed with the help of Hongkong Polytechnic Institute, Giugiaro design studio, and the Hong Kong Innovech investment firm. Notables later associated with it are former Virginia Governor Terry Mc Auliffe, Yang Rong's former business partner, Charles Wang, and Tony Rodham.
Vehicle specs having evolved from an original: 2570x1400x1500, wheelbase 1690 to the present: 2995x1600x1580,wheelbase 1920.
After covering the distance of a long runway, will it now finally get off the ground?

...will it now finally get off the ground?
Retail figures show only 5 units of Maimai have been registered in the past six months: 2 in March 2020 and 3 in April.

The venture has not even taken its first baby steps in China and already there are allegations of financial misdemeanor, cooking of books, audit falsification and inflated misreporting/misrepresentation of assets against the top functionary of the group. The group has, of course, vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

Google or Baidu the terms {赛麟, 66亿元, 王晓麟} to find numerous articles.

Saleen could become "unsustainable" in China as several investors, funding partners, and potential suppliers are becoming cagey about the group and its operations in China, in the wake of the allegations of "grand embezzlement" and "technological fraud" (the latter I believe concerned attempts to hoodwink the Rugao city govt.* by presenting old technology as new or state-of-art and receiving various commitments).

*and potential buyers too? -- something I alluded to in a previous post. I personally sensed something fishy as soon as I saw the atrocious price Saleen was demanding for that "thing" above.
