Translated with Google Translate:
The Spanish Seat studying automobile manufacture some models of its range in China and Latin America as part of the goal of producing more than 800,000 units set for the year 2018, with investments in this period of 5,000 million euros.

Erich Schmitt, president of Seat, made this announcement at a meeting yesterday at the Salon de l'Automobile in Geneva with the Spanish press for outstanding coverage of the 78 edition of this exhibition, the first major of the year on the Continent.

Schmitt explained that the opportunity to be in the Chinese market has emerged from its relationship for fifteen years as head of Audi purchases, as the mark of the rings manufactured in the country in alliance with VW and FAW-VW-Sanghai. He assured the president of Seat that the Chinese themselves have been those who have done market research on the possibility of being in its market with models Ibiza and Leon and their configurations in most sports. To advance on the possible entry into China, the president said that Seat will keep a further meeting with his "friends" next week in Barcelona. There is willingness on both sides and it all depends on the acceptance of products Seat in the Asian market, he added.

Schmitt also referred to a plan for producing Seat in Latin America, the company is considering several months ago and whose decision is forthcoming. The possibilities seem to focus on manufacturing plants in Mexico and Brazil.

Martorell is too large, Schmitt said, and with some adjustments and investments may reach the manufacture 600,000 units annually on the date indicated. The Spanish factory also said that the evolution of the staffing will depend on improved productivity, because it has to get more cars are manufactured with the same number of workers.

The chairman of the Spanish company's German Volkswagen group, referred, on the other hand, a plan to launch two or three new models per year, with a total of 40 in all segments, eight in total. Of the new Ibiza, presented in Geneva through a prototype called SportCoupe "Bocanegra," there will be more bodywork that the two initially announced, said Erich Schmitt. In this regard, Schmitt mentioned, for example, the possibility of space in the market for a sedan body if it offers the highest quality, a condition in which Seat wants to be a leader, as well as in design. And the saloon announced for the segment D, the manager said that will have two bodywork, and a four-door family, and that stopped his explanation because he refused to advance further information, while ruled out the return of the segment of the Seat commercial vehicles.

Erich Schmitt devoted much of his speech to the Spanish press to quality, an aspect that is analyzed daily meetings at which explores piece by piece all aspects that surround it, even inviting providers themselves to be aware of the demands of the mark, which are exactly alike, said, the Audi. As an example he cited the difference between a group of optical and one Audi and Seat cijo it can be that the first uses a bulb "point" and a Seat halogen light, but for the rest there is no difference in quality of materials and execution. The quality was related by Schmitt with the guarantees, as it defends the view that quality should serve to make redundant invoke the guarantee, used by manufacturers weak to stimulate bad products or improve poor performance of sales.

Re: SEAT studying manufacturing in China

News from Gasgoo:

Volkswagen group's subsidiary Seat is reported to be eying entry into the fast growing Chinese market, Shanghai Securities Journal reported today.

Seat's chairman, Erich Schmitt said on Thursday that the brand owner was discussing a possible foray into the promising Chinese market with Volkswagen's local partners, with another meeting scheduled in China next week, a Reuters report said.

Schmitt's own experience weights in favor of the possibility. He has been a member of the Management Board of FAW VW in 1995 and since June 1997 he has been responsible for Purchasing on the Management Board of AUDI AG and for the VW Group's activities in China.

Analysts also say Seat's hot selling Ibiza compact car and Leon are what FAW VW lack in its current product portfolio. Currently the joint venture has no A0 segment cars in production except the existing Golf, Bora, Sagitar and Magotan models.

In a separate interview, Qin Huanming, deputy General Manager of FAW-Volkswagen, didn't deny such a possibility, saying no brand can lose a market as important as China. Qin was on a journey to Seat's headquarters in Barcelona recently following his participation in Audi's annual meeting.

The maker of the Ibiza compact car and Toledo saloon has a lofty goal of nearly doubling sales to 800,000 units in 2018 by entering eight new segments including minivans and station wagons, and selling a brand image of sportiness, craftsmanship and design-consciousness.

SEAT made its first official showing on Chinese soil at Auto Shanghai 2011. As Volkswagen's only subsidiary currently not selling in China, SEAT also confirmed that its Ibiza and Leon autos will enter the Chinese market next year.

James Muir, CEO of SEAT, remarked that entering China was part of the manufacturer's global expansion plan. President of Volkswagen China, Karl-Thomas Neuman, echoed Mr. Muir's remarks. Dr. Neuman added that more models were destined for Chinese sales, with domestic production to come as well.

SEAT is the only Spanish manufacturers that simultaneously handles own design, research, production and sales of its vehicles. VW bought the controlling share in the manufacturer in the 1980s.
