Skoda's output in China to reach 35,000 units in 2007 -- CBW
Prague, Jan 22 (CTK) - Czech car maker Skoda Auto expects to produce more than 35,000 units in China this year, Skoda spokesman Roman Meliska has told Czech Business Weekly (CBW).

Production of the Octavia model, on which Skoda wants to cooperate with Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Company (SVW), should start in the first quarter of this year. The new Octavias will be launched on the market in the second quarter of 2007.

Skoda will produce the cars in an existing SVW plant, and obtain 80 percent of the parts from producers in China, Meliska told CBW.

Skoda plans to produce two other models - the super-economy Fabia and luxury model Superb - in China.

"Production will reach 100,000 units within three years after adding the Fabia and Superb models," Meliska said.

SVW was established in 1985. It is a joint venture of Skoda Auto, Skoda's parent Volkswagen from Germany and China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation.

At the beginning of this year, SVW became Skoda's sole representative in China, taking over import rights, marketing and a network of around 70 dealers handling sales and after-sale services.

By 2010, Skoda would like to have a 2 percent share of the Chinese market and sell around 100,000 cars a year, board of directors member Fred Kappler said at a motor show held in Shanghai in November last year.

In 2005, Skoda's sales in China amounted to 1,196 units.

Skoda Auto @ Auto China 2006

At Auto China 2006

Skoda Auto is officially presenting the Octavia model designed for the Chinese market at the International Automobile Salon in Peking. In addition to the current range of products, the visitor to the Automobile Salon can also get to know the more than one hundred year history and tradition of the brand.

In addition to the Octavia, Škoda Auto will also be presenting further models from the production program on a space of 700 m2 :

the Skoda Octavia RS
the Skoda Octavia Scout
the Skoda Superb L&K
The design study, Yeti, will also be on display at the stand as will be the historical model, the Škoda Superb 3000.

The cooperation contract between Shanghai Volkswagen and Škoda Auto was signed on 11th April 2005. Work commenced in March 2006 with the official development of the sales and service organisation of SVW Škoda. Production of the Škoda Octavia will commence at the beginning of 2007 in Shanghai followed later by the production of the Fabia and Superb model ranges. Following the signing of the cooperation contract, the start of production of the Octavia is the next step taken by Škoda, to establish the brand on the growing Chinese market.

All three model ranges of the Škoda brand (Fabia, Octavia, and Superb) will be produced in the factories of Shanghai Volkswagen for the local markets. The sales, service and customer care will be provided through the exclusive Škoda dealer network which is currently in the process of being developed. .

The Chairman of the Board of Škoda Auto, Detlef Wittig, stated in regard to this: „We regard China as being one of the strategic markets fro the future development of the Škoda brand. With the official presentation of the Octavia model and with the pending production start, a new position for the Škoda brand in China is being created.”

The licensed production in China is a component of the growth strategy of Škoda, the scope of which encompasses assembly projects in the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, India and, in future, Russia. The implementation of the growth strategy, including the production in China, is an important step on the path towards establishing Škoda as an international volume manufacturer.

In 2006 Škoda plans to supply more than 530,000 vehicles to customers on more than 90 markets throughout the world and thus continue the growth trend of the previous year. With this result, Škoda will once again set anew record for sales in its company history.

Shanghai Volkswagen sees promise in Skoda

BEIJING, July 18 -- Sino-German car venture Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile Co is looking to Skoda, its newly introduced Czech brand, to help it boost sales amid heated competition in the world's second-biggest vehicle market.

The 50-50 joint venture of SAIC Motor Corp and Volkswagen AG told China Daily that it expects Skoda, wholly owned by the German carmaker, to grab 2.5-3 percent of China's passenger car market by 2010.

Although the venture didn't reveal how many Skoda cars it hopes to sell by then, analysts said it is a bold plan as the Czech brand is a new entrant in China.

Shanghai Volkswagen said it aims to sell more than 30,000 Skoda Octavia compact sedans this year as part of its drive to move a total of over 400,000 cars, up from 352,000 units last year. The Octavia, Skoda's first China-made model, was put on sale on June 6.

The venture's first-half sales jumped by 23.1 percent to 213,735 units, including 3,000 Octavias, ranking it as the No 3 passenger car producer in China after Volkswagen's other tie-up with FAW Corp and General Motors' venture with SAIC.

Yale Zhang, director of Greater China Vehicle Forecasts for US consultancy CSM Worldwide (Shanghai) Corp, predicted passenger car sales in China - sedans, sport utility vehicles and multi-purpose vehicles - will rise to 7.2 million units in 2010 from 5 million expected to be sold this year.

Shanghai Volkswagen said "the introduction of Skoda is the start of our multi-brand strategy and will expand our lineup to satisfy growing customer demand".

The venture, which makes Volkswagen's Santana, Passat, Polo, Gol and Touran, plans to introduce a new Skoda model annually in coming years, including the subcompact Fabia and mid-range Superb.

Attempting to dispel concerns that Skoda will cannibalize Volkswagen brand sales in China, the company stressed that Skoda cars would not go head-to-head with Volkswagen models as the Czech marque has its own market position.

Skoda targets buyers who are "intelligent, steady-going and have a taste for life and inner-strength", such as the lawyers, doctors, teachers and senior civil servants, the venture said.

The firm said it will have 110 Skoda dealerships at the end of this year, up from 80 now.

Winfried Vahland, CEO of Volkswagen Group China, said last September that he expected Skoda to be a new "pillar" along with the Volkswagen and Audi brands to cement the German group's leadership in China's car market.

From January to June this year, the group's China sales jumped by 24.6 percent to 431,369 cars.

Overall sales of China-made passenger cars hit 2.55 million units in the same period, up 26 percent, according to industry data.

The German carmaker's venture with FAW is producing Volkswagen and Audi vehicles.

Skoda to produce 100,000 vehicles in China by 2010

Skoda to produce 100,000 vehicles in China by 2010.

December 10, 2007 – Skoda Auto, the Czech unit of Volkswagen, said it would produce 100,000 vehicles in China as its compact car model Fabia and Superb are ready to hit Chinese market next year, Shanghai Securities News reported today.

"Skoda's market presence in China is still very limited, but we will improve this situation by introducing more models," said Fu Qiang, director of Škoda Marketing & Sales Business of Shanghai VW.

Skoda started to produce and sell Octavia in Chinese market in June this year. In October, 4,111 locally produced Octavia vehicles were sold. Moreover, Octavia won five-star in a recent car crash test (C-NA CP) with a total score of 45 points.

Local Chinese media reported earlier that Skoda Fabia will be introduced to Chinese market by the second half of 2008, and other Skoda vehicles including an Octavia RS model and a SUV model will come to Chinese market along with Fabia.

Earlier reports said Skoda had sold approximately 20,000 vehicles in the first ten months in China this year. Globally, the Company has already sold 516,267 vehicles during the same period, up 12.9% compared with the same period last year.

Skoda to add six new models to its China line-up in 2008.

December 21, 2007 - To boost its presence in Chinese market, Skoda is planning to introduce six new models--two to be locally produced and the other four to be imported next year, Chinese business newspaper Information Times reported today.

Skoda has confirmed that Fabia and Superb will be locally produced in China next year. The Fabia hatchback will hit Chinese market by the second half of 2008, the model featuring a 1.4 liter TSI engine provided by Shanghai VW's engine plant, while the Superb, which is based on VW's PQ46 platform, will be locally produced by the end of 2008 or even later.

Along with its local production agenda, Skoda is also gearing up efforts for its importing program. The Czech-based automaker is set to import four new models next year, including a 4WD recreational vehicle, a minivan, a station wagon and a sporty SUV. The much-expected Octavia RS model is not on the latest short-list to be introduced.

The importing of these models will start early next year, and local production of these models will depend on results of the market research, said Fu Qiang, deputy director of Skoda Marketing & Sales Business of Shanghai VW, which is the only authorized seller to sell imported Skoda vehicles in China.

Earlier reports said that Skoda aims to annually produce 100,000 vehicles in China and grab a 3 percent share of China’s passenger vehicle market by 2010. Currently, its hot-selling model Octavia is the only Skoda model to be locally produced and sold in June this year. In the first 11 months this year, 26,788 Octavia sedans were sold in Chinese market.

Skoda Auto to launch new Fabia in China.

April 17, 2008 - Volkswagen's Czech unit Skoda Auto is planning to present 10 vehicles of three model lines at the Beijing auto show this month, and it is going to launch the new Fabia in the Chinese market in 2008. By presenting its European models, Skoda Auto shows its technological potential (Octavia RS and Scout) and environmental orientation (Fabia GreenLine) to Chinese industry experts.

The Fabia model line is shown in both available body versions. Besides a hatchback with an attractive white-painted roof, the visitors can see the Fabia GreenLine, an environmentally friendly model whose combined CO2 emissions are just 109g/km. Skoda Auto is going to launch the Fabia in the Chinese market this year and then it is going to launch one new model every year. The objective is to offer extensive Skoda portfolio, from the compact Fabia models to the prestigious Superb.

The Octavia line includes both European models and the Octavia Mingrui. The European models include the Octavia RS (sports version) and the Octavia Scout. The domestic production is represented by the Octavia Mingrui, i.e., a vehicle that has earned recognition for high quality and safety (five stars at C-NCAP, China Auto Pictorial Car of 2008).

Skoda Auto's production and assembly plants are currently in the Czech Republic, Russia, India, China, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ukraine.

I read anything, that the Skoda Yeti come out as a local produced car by Shanghai Volkswagen / Skoda.

But, in this article is to read, that the Yeti come only as an imported car to China.

Hmmmm... Is there a chance to see a local produced Yeti - or not?

Thanks in advance!
