Skoda to produce 100,000 vehicles in China by 2010

Skoda to produce 100,000 vehicles in China by 2010.

December 10, 2007 – Skoda Auto, the Czech unit of Volkswagen, said it would produce 100,000 vehicles in China as its compact car model Fabia and Superb are ready to hit Chinese market next year, Shanghai Securities News reported today.

"Skoda's market presence in China is still very limited, but we will improve this situation by introducing more models," said Fu Qiang, director of Škoda Marketing & Sales Business of Shanghai VW.

Skoda started to produce and sell Octavia in Chinese market in June this year. In October, 4,111 locally produced Octavia vehicles were sold. Moreover, Octavia won five-star in a recent car crash test (C-NA CP) with a total score of 45 points.

Local Chinese media reported earlier that Skoda Fabia will be introduced to Chinese market by the second half of 2008, and other Skoda vehicles including an Octavia RS model and a SUV model will come to Chinese market along with Fabia.

Earlier reports said Skoda had sold approximately 20,000 vehicles in the first ten months in China this year. Globally, the Company has already sold 516,267 vehicles during the same period, up 12.9% compared with the same period last year.

Skoda to add six new models to its China line-up in 2008.

December 21, 2007 - To boost its presence in Chinese market, Skoda is planning to introduce six new models--two to be locally produced and the other four to be imported next year, Chinese business newspaper Information Times reported today.

Skoda has confirmed that Fabia and Superb will be locally produced in China next year. The Fabia hatchback will hit Chinese market by the second half of 2008, the model featuring a 1.4 liter TSI engine provided by Shanghai VW's engine plant, while the Superb, which is based on VW's PQ46 platform, will be locally produced by the end of 2008 or even later.

Along with its local production agenda, Skoda is also gearing up efforts for its importing program. The Czech-based automaker is set to import four new models next year, including a 4WD recreational vehicle, a minivan, a station wagon and a sporty SUV. The much-expected Octavia RS model is not on the latest short-list to be introduced.

The importing of these models will start early next year, and local production of these models will depend on results of the market research, said Fu Qiang, deputy director of Skoda Marketing & Sales Business of Shanghai VW, which is the only authorized seller to sell imported Skoda vehicles in China.

Earlier reports said that Skoda aims to annually produce 100,000 vehicles in China and grab a 3 percent share of China’s passenger vehicle market by 2010. Currently, its hot-selling model Octavia is the only Skoda model to be locally produced and sold in June this year. In the first 11 months this year, 26,788 Octavia sedans were sold in Chinese market.

Skoda Auto to launch new Fabia in China.

April 17, 2008 - Volkswagen's Czech unit Skoda Auto is planning to present 10 vehicles of three model lines at the Beijing auto show this month, and it is going to launch the new Fabia in the Chinese market in 2008. By presenting its European models, Skoda Auto shows its technological potential (Octavia RS and Scout) and environmental orientation (Fabia GreenLine) to Chinese industry experts.

The Fabia model line is shown in both available body versions. Besides a hatchback with an attractive white-painted roof, the visitors can see the Fabia GreenLine, an environmentally friendly model whose combined CO2 emissions are just 109g/km. Skoda Auto is going to launch the Fabia in the Chinese market this year and then it is going to launch one new model every year. The objective is to offer extensive Skoda portfolio, from the compact Fabia models to the prestigious Superb.

The Octavia line includes both European models and the Octavia Mingrui. The European models include the Octavia RS (sports version) and the Octavia Scout. The domestic production is represented by the Octavia Mingrui, i.e., a vehicle that has earned recognition for high quality and safety (five stars at C-NCAP, China Auto Pictorial Car of 2008).

Skoda Auto's production and assembly plants are currently in the Czech Republic, Russia, India, China, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ukraine.
