Shanghai-Volkswagen Neeza Concept

Shanghai-Volkswagen Press Release: The Neeza concept is a crossover between a sports coupé and an estate with an off-road appearance, and has been designed in China for China. The study combines Chinese and German design philosophies, signifying the future of new models from Shanghai Volkswagen. Produced with Chinese culture, tastes and requirements firmly in mind, it is a mix of traditional Chinese and modern European features.

The off-road look of the Neeza concept reflects the versatility of the model. The front of the concept features a grille and bumper design that is typically Volkswagen, yet traditional Chinese window engravings are incorporated into the grille design. The rear looks sporty, yet is also functional.

The Neeza concept offers a large, functional interior for both business and leisure purposes. The design is open with optimal comfort in mind, for example, the front seats swivel so passengers can face each other. Access to rear seating is simplified by rear doors which open towards the rear, while a large panoramic roof provides a bright interior.

The concept intentionally has neither a radio, navigation system nor other form of infotainment equipment. Instead a ‘Magic Box’ serves as an interface for radio and navigation systems, mobile phone, personal organiser and other devices.

The name Neeza was derived from "Ne-zha". Ne-zha is a celebrated figure from Chinese history. Ne-zha was a small boy with magic weapons who fought against evil spirits. His unequalled will, his youthful and foresighted spirit and courage reflect the idea hidden behind the character and the name of the concept.

Accordnig to Autoweek, VW is preparing a production version of Neeza. Only for Chinese market:

Translation in English (by Babel Ffish):
Volkswagen work for a production version of the Neeza concept. Those have been presented year earlier this in China. The production model has been thus purely intended for the Chinese market.
Volkswagen developed the Neeza concept especially for China. The car has been devised thus whole in that country. Next year starts the production of this model that a junction is between SUV and stationwagen. In China he takes on especially the competition with American marks. The Neeza have style characteristics of the Audi Q7 but are considerably shorter than that car; the more format of VW Tiguan. The attraction to be of course the suicide doors but or that will obtain the production stage, are unclear.
Concerning the engine offer there not yet much are clear, but get according to rumours the 170 pk strong 1,4-liter from the golf GT and the 300 pk strong 3,6-liter V6 from the Passat R36 a spot in these Chinese Volkswagen.

Volkswagen’s Neeza Concept Car Will Come into Season Next Year

"In the last Beijing automobile exhibition, we saw the latest thought of Chinese automobile industry in Volkswagen’s Neeza concept car researched by Shanghai Volkswagen and German Volkswagen. Both its appearance and the accessories had a Chinese style. According to the recent report, a largely produced car model of Neeza concept will come into season in 2008. If Neeza acquires the anticipated effect, then Volkswagen will also promote this model in North America and Europe. Neeza is the best way for Volkswagen to solve the lack of the four-wheel-drive car models."
