Sinotruk and Chengdu Wangpai Motor form commercial vehicle JV

China Knowledge reported that Sinotruk Ltd, the Hong Kong listed arm of China largest heavy truck manufacturer, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group and Chengdu Wangpai Motor Group recently launched a commercial vehicle joint venture.

According to an agreement signed between Sinotruk and Chengdu Wangpai, the two companies will set up a new commercial vehicle plant with annual production capacity of 400,000 units.

As per report, the new plant which will cost CNY 3 billion will principally produce a series of commercial vehicles and other vehicles under several brands. The JV will initially produce 100,000 heavy and medium trucks by 2011 and 300,000 light and mini trucks by 2015.
China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co. (CNHTC), one of China's top truck manufacturers, inked a cooperation agreement with Chengdu Wangpai Vehicle Co., Ltd on Monday for establishing a new commercial vehicle plant with annual production capacity of 400,000 units in Chengdu city, capital city of southwest China's Sichuan province.

The joint venture, with CNHTC holding an 80 percent stake, is set to produce entire package of commercial vehicles, ranging from heavy, medium, light to micro commercial vehicles.

It aims to produce 100,000 units of heave- and medium-duty trucks, and 300,000 units of light and micro trucks annually by the year 2015.

Its first batch of heavy- and medium-duty trucks is expected to go into production in 2011.

The CNHTC-Wangpai JV, CNHTC's first cooperation project with a non-CNHTC member on vehicle production, marks the mammoth's transformation from a single heavy truck producer to an all-rounder of whole series of commercial vehicles.

CNHTC, known as the producer of China's first heavy-duty vehicle-Yellow River JN150 and for its independently developed HOWO heavy-duty truck series, currently produces more than 2,700 vehicle models, and has reached annual production capacity of 200,000 heavy-duty trucks and 250,000 units of their engines.

And Chengdu Wangpai's main businesses cover cargo-carrying and other special vehicle production, as well as manufacturing and sales of vehicle components.
