Hello!

I live in Uruguay, South America. I currently own a Brazilian Ford Escort 1994 full and I would like to buy my first 0Km car. I wouldn't like a very small car.

There are some Chinese cars offers in our market presently, for example:

ZXAUTO Grandtiger (they say it has a Mitsubishy engine inside), Effa brand and GONOW.

I really appreciate your comments on what do you think about the above brands!

Thank you in advance.

Best regards from Uruguay.

You're right mememe! No idea why Chary is not in that website (I know I told you to find them at there, sorry!). Also Zxauto is not there. Maybe both of them are too new for that website.

The 4x4 zxauto GrandTiger is being offered in the biggest uruguayan supermarket (60 monthly payments of USD217 each one VAT included). I think it's the cheapest 4x4 in the country. Check its price here: geant . com . uy

I've been seen in the city some SUV or Pickup Chery Tiggo (I don't remember exactly if they are pickup or SUV). Also Chery is building a plant here in association with a company named Bognor. I can't put all the links here because their too large and it seems that this site will only allow me to place links after publishing 10 post. :thumb: Just google "chery" "tiggo" "bognor" "uruguay" words and you'll find info about it.

I've read that Lifan is entering the country too (I didn't see any car in the street so far).

Options from other origins I think it could be a RENAULT MEGANE Authentique 4 doors 1.6 that is about USD20.000 + credit financial interests.

Download excel file directly from this site: http : / / www . ascoma . com . uy / estadisticas . htm

You'll see statistical information on sales of new cars in Uruguay at there. It's interesting to see which months some Chinese brands started to be sold!

I hope you may give me some tips on buying Chinese cars. :)

Edit: to inform that I've found that the file of CARS it's at "Camiones y utilitarios" at ASCOMA site, instead of "Automoviles" (if you download "Automoviles" you'll just see the trucks sales!). This is a mistake.

I've found the Chery, ZX, Faw Vita, etc. under "Otras Marcas" (in English: other brands) at: www . oautos . com . uy

Faw Vita C1 16V: USD16.990
Chery Tiggo: USD24.990 (too much for me)
Chery QQ 1.1 16V: USD12.790
Xinkai Auto HXK 1021S D/cabina: USD22.900
Xinkai Auto HXK 1021S D/cabina: USD16.490 (there maybe a mistake in this price or in the above price)
Chery QQ 1.1L MT: USD12.790
Chery QQ 0.8L MT: USD11.390
GMW Sailor Full: USD16.500
GWM Deer Doble cabina: USD16.990

Regards.

Hi Incon
I'm also in Uruguay.

For what I've read you have not decided yet if you`ll go for a car or a crew cab.

Anyway, actually the situation is about the same it was 15 yeas ago with korean cars. At first there was ample lack of confidence in the korean products. But after a while the main issue became the support provided by the local retailer in the form of service and spares.

Check that, and look beyond DVD, audio and other gadgets for the availability of ABS brakes, EBS, air bags and other safety measeures that can save your life.

Regards

Hola Incon:
Thanks for the very informative update on Chinese cars in your homeland market.

The price ZX Auto is asking for the Grand Tiger, is just under the $13,500 price which the (would-be importer) Chamco was promising its prospective U.S. dealers.

Xinkai is way overpriced and its poor reputation for quality drove it out of Russia.

In my opinion the Grand Tiger is the best value for the money.

Also GWM has a good reputation as Micodelija will affirm :).

I would buy a Lifan before I would by an FAW C1 (Vita in Russia).

thanks for the info dragin, regarding the ZX Grandtiger i'm rechecking as I think the information on the site may not be clear enough:

"Camioneta Doble Cabina GRANDTIGER. Motor Tecnología Japón. Are Acindicionado. Dirección Hidráulica. Levanta Vidrios Eléctricos . Llantas. Radio CD. Faros Camineros. Respalda SADAR. FINANCIA CRÉDIT URUGUAY BANCO, CRÉDIT AGRICOLE GROUP. *Ejemplo sobre la base de financiación del 70% del valordel vehículo sin IVA, ptf: U$S 13006,20. TEA: 8%,65. Más gastos Precio del vehículo sin IVA: U$S 15,156. Oferta sólo valida para empresas tributarias de IRAE o IMEBA. Sujeto a aprobación sertificada y a la contratación de una Cuenta Crédit Empresas. U$S 18490,00
60 cuotas de : U$S 217"

It's a little unintelligible, so I'm visiting the dealers so I can clarify :)

Regarding Lifan, the dealer (Beijing Motors) asked me USD17.000 for the Lifan 520 full the other day (the same price as Faw C1).

Now I have more clear idea of what I want; 5 doors, SUV or not very small sedan car (no pickup), ABS, Airbag, etc.

Maybe the Lifan satisfies that

"The basic models of Lifan are DX, LX, EX, and EX luxury with DVD. They are powered by either 1.3 or 1.6 litre engines. Both engines have the powerful multipoint electronic technology controlled with fuel injection. This enhances fuel efficiency. For instance, Lifan achieves 100 kilometres with 7.6 litres of fuel.
Some of the features of the cars are large trunk, alloy wheels, spacious leg room, fog lamps and multi-reflector lamps. Safety-wise, Lifan 520 boasts driver/front passenger airbags, reverse radar screen, slit light indicator, ABS (anti-lock brake system) with EBD (electronic brake distribution) and child-protection door lock, while the body is made of 0.8 to 1.2mm strong metal sheet."

Lifan 520 did well in Russian Euro-Ncap.

Fist impression is good (now I need to process the information haha and compare with other vehicules at the same price range). I found it very strong. I liked the DVD (i think it's the only vehicle with DVD at that price range in the country). Although the line is a little rough, I'm not sure if you know what I mean. The other model (the SUV GX6 I think it is) is beautiful, but TOO expensive for me (about USD35.000)

I think Daihatsu Terios SX 1.5 Full is cheaper than the Jetstar, although it may be smaller. I will inform about it.

Today I didn't have much time, but I visited an Effa store (Oriental Motors). Unfortunately they didn't have any SMA in exhibition I just got a catalogue. If I have time on the weekend i'll visit other Effa dealer, so I can see the SMA. The prices are USD18.000 and USD19.000 (7151-C52 & 7181-C81). But guess what... no Airbags :(

At the SMA site SMA C81 seems to have airbags:

"In order to guarantee the safety, C81 adopts double-airbag as well as some alarm devices to the electric intelligentizing combination dashboard, such as the over speed caution alarm, safety belts caution alarm, rear trunk lip caution alarm and doors caution alarm. The outside rear view mirrors use the newest design and have the function of side turning lamps and anti-dazzle."

I don't know why the SMA vehicules imported in Uruguay don't have airbags.
