It's possible Suzuki may or many not be intending to manufacture motos in China only for the Chinese market but for export to other countries as well. BMW has sourced the new 800cc moto engines to ChongQing and I think other companies will be taking advantage of the cheap labor to stay competitive in the global market.

Suzuki has had a motorcycle plant in Jinan for many years and it's where the (or at least many) of the DR200s are produced. There are so many Suzkuki clone companies (like HaoJue) in the small towns and villages that I'm not sure what Suzuki Japan could offer. They must have some info I'd like to look at! :D

China has extremely strict regulations on their domestic motorcycle market which is unfortunate as loosening those laws would help their manufacturers a GREAT deal. Additionally, the prevailing cultural attitude is motorcycles are "low class" so if someone can afford a small cheap car then they'll get more "status" from owning four wheels instead of two. This is doubly insane because traffic and congestion in China is crazy and in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan for example, new cars are hitting the roads at about 400 per day!

The Chinese moto market is complicated and confusing to follow but it's interesting!

You're likely not going to get any more news on this unless you know specific people involved in the area or industry. Suzuki already has at least a couple JV plants throughout China so I'm not sure why this was even news in the first place.
