While I was googleing I found this pic from another ancient Shanghai car. It seems it was introduced in 1970 and exists as an inspection car. This pic seems to have been made at a museum.

The site where I found it wasn't configured to anything readeable, so I can't say much about this car. Let the experts to talk -I mean Erik:)

Indeed it has some similarities but I believe Shanghai SH761 must be much bigger, perhaps as large as Shanghai SH760 at least (about 4.8 meters long, think about a Mercedes E-class for example). VAZ 2106 is something as big as an old FIAT 124 or 125 (about 4 meters long, FIAT 125 was possibly a bit longer).
Possibly SH761 is basically an old SH760 with renewed shell and on a convertible version for parades.

The Shanghai SH761 parade car is developed in competition with Hongqi. It was designed by the Shanghai Auto Works in 1965 and introduced in May 1966. Form 1965-171 14 units were made and we are happy that there are still four cars left. The car is indeed much bigger than the standard SH760 but uses the same 2223 cc 6 cylinder (Mercedes copy) engine.
Two cars still to see are in Luo Wenyous collection in Huairou and in Liu Xiangyangs collection in Dalian. The other two belong to a hotel in Shanghai. You can find more about these museums on my website: http://www.chinesecars.net/index.php?page=60 and more about the car itself in my historial document 'Shanghai, saloons from teh artisan era', on my website: http://www.chinesecars.net/index.php?page=4
