Does anyone own vintage Chinese cars? I like older cars and one can find plenty of older Russian cars but no Chinese cars. I even have a 1/24th scale model of a CA770 Hong Qi limousine in my display cabinet.
Auto industry is new in China. There was the Hong Ki, and they were several truck manufacturers, but a generation ago, Chinese people had bikes as their sole way of personal transportation.
But, as far as I know, after 20 years, all the government car have to be scrapped.
I was in China in October. I saw a FAW-Audi 100, a wrecked Guangzhou-Peugeot 505 Estate, a late Beijing-Jeep BJ212 and a few Hiali. That's all the "vintage" I could find.
There are a lot of Chinese car collectors, you can find some on my museumlist: http://www.chinesecars.net/index.php?page=60
Others don't exhibit their cars for the public. I estimate the number of old Hongqi limousines still existing 200, of which 50-80 in driving condition and nearly all in private hands, the number of Shanghai saloons 50.
Eric, thank you very much for the links. Very helpful. Since Chinese Auto industry is so new, I find the first cars like the Hong Qi and others of that type very cool. I even have two scale model cars of the Hong Qi.
