Specially-designed Chinese King Long buses made their way to Malta recently.

A senior official with China's Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Co. Ltd made the remark Tuesday.

The buses use environment-friendly engines which have met the Second European Emission Standard.

In 1997, the Maltese government looked at buying high-grade buses all over the world. After comparisons, they finally chose King Long because of their shape and competitive price.

Technicians from two nations exchanged their views in the model-design and finished that in two years.

King Long corporation, which was founded in 1988, has become one of the leading companies in China's bus industry with the highest sales income last year.

MSRTC to introduce Chinese-made luxury buses

Mumbai, November 29: With the aim of attracting more commuters and following the foot steps of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is also planning to introduce Chinese made Volvo-type buses in its fleet.

MSRTC is likely to buy these buses from King Long, a Chinese automobile giant. According to the spokesperson of MSRTC, “Initially, we are planning to hire two of these buses. Later if the feedback from commuters, bus drivers and conductors is positive, we plan to buy them.”

The spokesperson denied divulging details on when the buses will be brought to India.

The main aim behind the introduction of such buses is to attract more commuters who prefer traveling by private bus rather than public transport, added the spokesperson.

MSRTC has been facing tough competition from the private tourist buses, as they are more comfortable and convenient. With these King Long buses, MSRTC hopes to beat the competition and provide better facilities to its commuters.

According to sources, Association of State Road Transport Undertaking (ASRTU), a New Delhi-based undertaking which heads all India’s state transport undertakings, will mediate for the hire or purchasing of these buses.

The undertaking is planning to use these buses on different routes for the state besides the Mumbai-Pune route. Though, MSRTC has remained tightlipped on the fare structure of these buses, it is expected that the fares would be on the higher side.

“We will decide on the fare structure for these Volvo-type buses later. Currently, we are in the process of getting these buses either on hire or purchasing them,” said the spokesperson.

The features of these King Long buses are similar to that of European Volvo buses.

King Long pushes exports

Xiamen King Long United Automobile Industry Co, a major bus maker in SE China, aims to generate one-third of its bus sales from overseas within three to five years, up from the current 15 percent, a senior executive said yesterday.

King Long, with two holding companies in Suzhou and Nanjing in East China's Jiangsu Province, has been pushing aggressively beyond its home market, which has grown crowded with powerful rivals such as Yutong Group, Ankai Auto and Volvo AB's local ventures.

"We plan to raise the export ratio to 30 percent in about three to five years as we strive to achieve 20 percent this year," said Richard Zhang, general manager of King Long's overseas business, at Tuesday's Busworld Asia 2007 industry expo.

The Shanghai-listed company, which holds less than one-fifth of China's bus market, sold roughly 24,000 buses in 2006, with exports hitting 2,400 units, in contrast to its 11 percent of bus sales generated overseas in 2005. "Our target for the overseas market is 1.7 billion yuan a year in the next three to five years from the current 1 billion yuan," said Zhang.

It plans to press further into Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, South America and particularly Europe. King Long is currently the sole Chinese player in the European market, thanks to the VCA certification the key to entering Europe granted by the British authorities in 2005.

Domestic bus manufacturers are racing around the globe to seek opportunities as China's bus market, where sales topped 130,000 units last year, is crowded with more than 100 manufacturers. "The domestic market is large but growth is slow, so we will make efforts in this regard as well," Zhang said.

He also said that King Long, like most other Chinese manufacturers pushing sales overseas, is doing its utmost to lower production costs to offset the disadvantage triggered by the appreciation of the yuan.

they should just call it "Golden Dragon"

I believe China should spend more time on these types of products than the "national pride sensitive" personal car market when it comes to export markets.

Maybe they should, but they can't. Because there is another bus company, also based in Xiamen, with an identical Chinese name - Jin Long. Their English name is Golden Dragon.

I'm still not clear how it came to be that two separate companies, based in the same city and producing the same products, could have the same name. Can anyone clue me in?

King Long buses may ride in at the expense of Volvos

Pune, June 2: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) may be looking for an infusion of ‘King Long’ luxury buses from China to its existing fleet of around 20 Volvos.

“The cost of a Volvo is around Rs 85 lakh per bus while the Chinese buses that have similar features are cheaper by around Rs. 15 lakh,” Sudhakar Paricharak, chairman, MSRTC, said here on Friday.
“The corporation is awaiting a final report on the Chinese buses. It’s expected to be submitted by the Mumbai and Pune depots next week. If the report is positive, we will consider purchasing more buses. MSRTC is currently running two Chinese buses on trial basis for the last couple of months between Mumbai and Pune,” Paricharak said.

Paricharak, who was here to participate in the 60th anniversary celebrations of MSRTC, said he was not in a position to give further details. At present, the corporation has a fleet of around 16,500 buses that covers 80,000 routes across Maharashtra.

Paricharak said MSRTC, which has been making losses for the past decade was back in the black. “MSRTC reports transactions worth Rs 3,400 crore annually and still has a shortfall of 40 lakh commuters on daily basis,” he said. He said the corporation would make a net profit of Rs 10 crore in 2006-07. In 2005-06, it made losses of Rs 36 crore.

Attributing the turnaround to the reduction in diesel prices and prevention of private buses in the 200-metre periphery of bus depots, the MSRTC chairman said the corporation had chosen to innovate to supplement its income.

“The corporation has installed prepaid PCO telephone services on its 4,500 long distance and medium term routes to attract commuters,” he said.

Xiamen King Long luxury buses exported to Cuba

September 26, 2008

Shanghai, September 26 (Gasgoo.com) On September 21, the 141 King Long (Golden Dragon) luxury buses made by Xiamen King Long Auto were loaded onto a freight ship at Xiamen Dongdu port. This is the first big batch of King Long buses exported to the Cuban market and also the biggest-ever order from South America for King Long buses, said a Xiamen newspaper.

The 141 King Long luxury buses exported to Cuba include six types, ranging from the 6-meter bus to the 12-meter one. To meet the needs of Cuban customers and the local conditions in the South American country, Xiamen King Long has improved much on many features of its current bus models, such as the medical kit box, carpet, audio system, baggage racks, and clothes cabinets, to make the bus more passenger-friendly. In addition, the King Long bus has anti-corrosive properties and can operate well in the humid, rainy Cuban climate.

Xiamen Jing Long has sent three employees to escort the 141 buses to Cuba. They will provide training to the local technicians and drivers on how to operate and drive the Jing Long buses. The Chinese bus maker is also preparing to set up a Jing Long bus components center in Cuba.

This year, Xiamen Jing Long buses have rolled into 10 emerging markets including Australia and Cuba, bringing the number of its export destinations to more than 50 countries and regions from the 40 of last year. From January to August, the export revenue of Xiamen Jing Long reached 900 million yuan ($132 million), exceeding the total of the whole year 2007.

King Long bus, coach '08 export revenue up 90%

December 19, 2008
Shanghai, December 19 (Gasgoo.com) Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Co Ltd, a Xiamen-based bus and coach manufacturer, expects its export revenue to rise by more than 90% year on year to $200 million in 2008, defying the global auto market downturn, state media reported earlier this week.

Over the past three years, King Long has been growing by over 30% annually, and this year it will chalk up 5.3 billion yuan ($774 million) of sales, 25% of which will come from overseas business. As a leader in China's coach-making industry, King Long contributed 18% of all the buses and coaches the country exported in the first ten months of 2008, up from previous year's 13%, according to Custom figures.

The company attributed the strong export growth to its proactive sales strategy and overseas management system covering sales, after-sales service, product certification, international financing, customer relations and logistics. The company has a staff of 100 to manage its overseas expansion and its vehicles have met international vehicle standards like Russia's GOST (gosudarstvennyy standard) and Australia's ADR (Australian Design Rules) for imports.

Founded in 1988, the Xianmen coach-maker started its overseas business in 2001, and now has a sales network spreading in 55 countries or regions. In 2008, King Long has expanded to 10 emerging markets including Australia and Cuba. The company plans to sell half of its products to foreign countries in the future.

King Long will focus on African market next year, as the ongoing global financial crisis is likely to have a mild impact on the continent, while continuing to explore Asian markets such as Singapore, Thailand, India and Pakistan. It has also identified Latin America as a key market.

Re: : : : King Long : : :

King Long has arrived in Australia. The 6126 AU bus has landed in Australia and is offered as a school bus only. King Long Australia has done a deal with the Chinese company to distribute buses nationwide. It is built on an IVECO chassis and can seat 57 passengers. Priced at school bus level, it can also be used for charter work, depending on customer needs. King Long Australia says that it will provide a good foothold in the Australian market and plans for more buses to be imported are underway. King Long also stated that whereas local builders take up to a year to deliver buses, King Long can deliver units in as little as three months. The 6126 AU will be joined later in the year by three new buses: the 6129 AU tour coach, the 6122 AU low floor city bus, an articulated city bus, and the 6900 AU mini coach.

King Long has also come to New Zealand. All buses comply with NZ emmissions regulations as well as Australian regulations as well. New Zealand models include the XMQ6105 and XMQ6116 city buses and XMQ6886 and XMQ6996 tour buses.
