To have something in the lower price bracket, I guess. Both the D23 Navara and D22 NP300 from Nissan sell in the 140,000-190,000 RMB range, whereas the New Rich retails in the 85,000-120,000 RMB band. The old Dongfeng Rich has been retired in China. As for new vehicles, yes Dongfeng does have a new one -- Yufeng P16, for 94,000-120,000 RMB overlapping the New Rich, but then, that is from another Dongfeng division, and which replaces the older P65/P66/P68 pickups. I don't know if it is possible or feasible for Nissan or Dongfeng to derive a cheap pickup off the new D23 chassis, retaining the D23's quality and robustness, for the sub-100,000 RMB segment, seeing that the D23 actually spawned something in the other direction -- the Mercedes-Benz X-Class!
The Stafim-Peugeot vehicle plant at Mghira, Tunisia, was inaugurated a few hours ago on the country's Republic Day, July 25. As mentioned in post #55, the Rich-based Peugeot Pick Up is to be assembled here, and the first few units have just rolled out.
