After two over 700 km’s stages of long and arduous journey in succession comes the last stage of the Dakar Rally - the 14th stage from Santa Rosa to Buenos Aires. 206 km as the special only acts as a dot in the long journey.

For the Chinese drivers the biggest goal is to finish the race. That’s the reason why everyone keeps sedate in today’s stage. “We’ll drive faster if the situation allows. Whereas, we try to maintain the pace most of the time, for we have the established goal that the dragon chariot must finish the race.” said Zhou Yong at the start in the morning. In fact, he did as what he said. In this stage Zhou Yong achieved the 27th stage ranking, and ranked 33rd in the overall standings.

At the end of the Dakar Rally Zhou Yong delivered his congratulations to all the Chinese drivers in the same boat. “Firstly I congratulate Lu Ningjun on the breakthrough that he had made, also congratulate Jiang Yaohuan and Zhu Jinzhong on their well completion of the race for the first Dakar and the good results that they had achieved. I’m really pleased that so many Chinese drivers participated in the Rally, and demonstrate the strong potential of Chinese people in the most brutal and challenging race event in the world. I believe that in the future Chinese drivers will not only aim to finish the race, but to achieve the good result. ” said Zhou Yong after he parked his chariot in the closed parking lot.

this is an interwiew with great wall driver, well done :thumb:

On October 28, Great Wall Motors officially announced that its Hover Soaring Dragon Racing Team will join hands with Zhou Yong, China's new generation king of car races, to attend the Dakar Rally 2011.

At the press release site, Zhan Guojun, Vice Chairman of Federation of Automobile Sports of China (FASC), presented Zhou Yong the pennant "Team of China" and expressed his hope that Soaring Dragon Racing Team would once again showcase China's strength and put on a good performance.

Dakar Rally has been reputed for "the most difficult and adventurous racing trip in the world", and is a top competition for the mankind to challenge nature, himself and technology. In January 2010, Great Wall Motors made the breakthrough by becoming the first Chinese car brand to show up at Dakar Rally. It not only finished the whole course of the competition, but ranked 33rd in total scores.

After presenting the pennant to Soaring Dragon Racing Team, Zhan Guojun said: "Dakar Rally is the world top off-road racing contest. China's own car manufacturer's heading for the event not only reflects China's auto sports level and its important role in the world's car racing contests, but also displays the company's great ambition to shift to an international brand through tenacious efforts despite dangers and difficulties. I hope Great Wall Motors can represent all the participating teams and drivers of Chinese and plant our banner of victory on the summit of success."

Soaring Dragon Racing Car for this event will remain a Haval SUV, which has gone through tests of the market and consumers and boasts perfected quality. Since its launch into the market in 2005, Haval SUV has been the best-seller for 7 consecutive years, and is the backbone of domestic SUV brands in their competition with joint venture co-brands as an equal.

In the presence of the media, a ceremony for the delivery of the 400,000th Haval SUV was held in the press release site. The key of the Haval SUV was handed over to Zhou Yong, king of car races, for temporary safe-keeping. After the Dakar Rally, the historic key will be formally awarded to the honorary driver selected out from Great Wall Motors' "Dakar Rally on My Mind" contest candidates, who have been involved in the event.

Vice President of Great Wall Motors Dong Ming emphasized that: "after 7 years of hard work, Haval SUV has made a number of miracles, for example, becoming the best seller, the No. 1 export brand, and the best model. All these have formed a force enabling the domestic brand Haval SUV to be a strong rival of joint venture products. Today, on the occasion of our second march to Dakar Rally, we sincerely hope that the owners of 400,000 Haval SUV can share with us the glory of Hover as 'China's No. 1 SUV Brand', and feel the wildness and passion Dakar Rally brings us".

In the press release site, Great Wall Motors also held the inaugural ceremony for "Dakar Technology Research Center", the first of its kind in China.

It's reported that, on January 1 next year, Dakar Rally 2011 will open in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina. Lifting the flag "Team of China", Soaring Dragon Racing Car will be speeding across the vast expanse of Gobi Desert in South America and creating glory for China.

Hi Joest, Happy New Year!
I don't think that there is any connection between the two.
I think that although the Haval may be prepped by Dessoude, it's enabled by its Isuzu origins.

Driving HAVAL Comparable to International Brands for Crossing the Country and the Desert, Zhou Yong Rising to the 16th Position, Hitting a New Record in China
Great Wall Motor Company Limited
On January 12th of the local time, the route of around Copiapo, known as the most difficult stage of 2011 Dakar Rally, was not really very serious for Zhou Yong. What surprised members of the racing team more was that he came back to the camp at 2:30 pm.
The nearly perfect performance of Zhou Yong not only refreshed Chinese racers and accompanying personnel, racers and maintenance personnel of other teams also came to congratulate him. At the camp of the Great Wall team there were always curious foreigners holding cameras and scrambling to see the Chinese self-owned brand motor. Even Lv Ji’an, Executive Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Yannick, Chairman of Dakar Rally Committee, specially visited the maintenance area of the Great Wall Motors Loong Racing Team and nodded at HAVAL SUV’s performance and rained praise on Zhou Yong’s achievement. The official website of the Organizing Committee and French Auto News and other media successively took Zhou Yong , the representative of Chinese strength as their report contents.
Yes, it’s really an interesting phenomenon, which was unimaginable at the beginning of the rally. At the first stage, Zhou Yong only ranked 85th due to his strangeness to HAVAL SUV, the brand-newly built racing car. However, the process of Zhou Yong’s adapting to the racing car was gradually shortened with the increase of difficulties. From the 6th stage on January 7th, Zhou Yong’s performance soared from the 39th position on the previous day to the 20th position and ranked 34th in the total performance.
During the following four stages, his performance remained stably rising. At the 7th stage on January 8, Zhou Yong ranked 17th with the overall ranking of the 22th. At the 8th stage on January 9th, his ranking rose to 16th position with the overall ranking surpassing the 19th he hit. At the 9th stage on January 10th, he once again maintained the 16th position with the overall ranking promoting to the 17th. At the 10th stage on January 11th, he ranked the 18th with the overall ranking up to the 16th.
So far, during the 2011 Dakar Rally, Zhou Yong has become a star to some degree. Is it a little exaggerating since Zhou Yong has not ranked the Top 10 yet? No. If you have a look at the people who rank before Zhou Yong on the Overall Ranking List, you will know how hard it’s for Zhou Yong to achieve such results and why there are so many people screaming as those South American car fans at the fences out of the camps.
During the rally, the ranking depends on not only the racer but also the racing car. The racers rank before Zhou Yong are all driving racing cars of manufacturer teams and former manufacturer teams, as well as the SMG Racing Team who is not inferior to these manufacturer teams. Keep in mind that not all the racing cars and racers who attended the rally earlier and enjoyed higher reputation rank before Zhou Yong, many racers of the BMW team and Humvee team rank behind Zhou Yong.
Let’s turn to the racers, racers from the BMW team and former Nissan and Mitsubishi teams are all professional racers such as Stephane Peterhansel and Rome who are ambitious to win the champion, let alone the four racers ranking the TOP 4 from the Volks Wagen team. This means that Zhou Yong has already become a superior racer of Dakar Rally in which the top racers are all from various powerful teams; besides, it also means that Chinese racers are no longer satisfied with simply participating in the Rally, but entering into a stage of competing with other mainstream auto teams.
